I need to use my notebook which has vista installed

My instruction book says that the disc is for windows 98. Of course Vista came out years later.

  • grin_go Aug 16, 2008

The software does not seem to be available for the Vivatar 5100

    Is there any other way?

As already addressed by Benimur, the camera will be recognized by Windows as a generic mass storage device.
This means that if you open Computer, on Start menu you will find a new removable hard drive.

Connect Vivitar to USB
Open computer under Start Menu.
Explore all removable hard drives until you find the camera.
Once you find the external hard drive corresponding to your Vivitar, there should be a folder with pictures inside.

Try it out.

Hi,

Vista will read the Vivitar 5100 as another external "Mass Storage Device". The software is not for compatibility but rather for a proprietary images/file transfer. Other than manual configurations when transferring/copying/deleting, it should work out just fine as long as plug in and recognized/read by and through the USB port of the PC.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

if that set up does not work then there is no way to make this camera work in vista.
you will have to go with some other solution or a new camera or a new extra OS.

Do you have the pic software for the camera, and if so, is it not compatible with Vista?

Well, this is a new one for me. Do you still have the same photo software? Open up whatever you do have and click on help and unloading camera or something similar. There must be a way.

If you don't have any photo software, I would go to www.tucows and search for freeware photo software -that is compatible with vista and download something there to use.

Alternatively You could simply open up my computer click on the camera drive and open it to see the photos then selct all>copy then go somewhere and create a new folder to paste them into. Then go back anddelte them off your camera. YOu'll still need a photo proggy. I'll bet you have one though. Have a look at everything on your hard and see what you have.
