My Mac Mini disc drive is broken so I cannot load my Canon software. I took some pictures in raw with my Rebel XS and wanted to know if there is a way that I can download the software without a disc drive.

You did not state which computer or software you are using to edit your video, bu the general consensus is the raw footage has to be "unwrapped" from its compressed form (video gets compressed to fit on SD card) so that it can be editable with your software. Otherwise, editing the footage will be difficult. I use a Mac and FCP. My workflow is - after moving the files from my SD Card to my ext. hard drive, I batch load them into MPEG Streamclip (free software for PC and Mac). Then I choose Apple ProRes 422 (LT) to transcode my raw footage. After waiting for the process to finish (minutes to hours, depending on how many files you batch load), I import my files into FCP and everything works great. No more issues. Also, if you are working on a Mac, iMovie will accept your Rebel.mov files without issue. iMovie unwraps the footage with the Apple Intermediate Codec automatically and editing in iMovie is so simple that it makes me want to smack myself for not trying it sooner after editing on FCP for the last 10 years.......

You can't burn raw pictures. They are only data from a camera....not an actual picture. They must be processed in an editing program and then converted to another format such as jpeg or tiff.

This can depend on the picture quality you have selected, try using JPEG only, no RAW. If this is still not fast enough, you can try a faster SD card, going up to a SDHC Class 6. The Canon XS is a low-end of the EOS Digital Rebel and the slowest, if speed is absolutely required past JPEG only and a Class 6 SDHC, your only hope is upgrading to a faster Rebel.

Hopefully you have the EOS Digital Rebel. (The EOS Rebel was a film camera.) Without the software that came with the camera (ZoomBrowser EX for Windows or ImageBrowser for Mac), you can only download JPG images using the PTP communication mode. The communication mode is set up in the Menu system on the camera, and is either "Normal" or "PTP". If you want to download RAW files, you will need to use a software application that has a converter for Canon RAW files (Photoshop, etc.). If you didn't get a User's Manual, you can get one here.
