do have a spare mic to try
skype has its microphone test function ..
my mic is usb

in computer settings or systems
see if the device is working there
(windows 10 ) try this
look for connected usb devices
see if the mic is showing on the list

if not then the mic its plug it self or the computer socket is the problem

There is a mic in Skype and people can hear you if you have your mic on so the person your talking can hear you. There has also been an update on Skype really long ago and that update you can only mute yourself now. Here's a photo of a test call. Try doing that to test if you they can hear you.

No you need to buy a microphone to chat with Skype.

Set up Audio example

Laptop x webcam/mic x Vista x Skype
If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access your hardware from the Control Panel.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
Restart computer

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

In Skype go to your settings, then look for the audio. It is usually set to something other than your factory mic... change it to the mic for your model computer.

Hi,
I had the same problem and I replaced and/or used "external mic for Notebook " for this purpose and everything is ok now..
pls use new mic and make a test call to SKYPE to hear your mic voice as well..

you can go to testmycam.com to verify it's working both the webcam and mic
or you can install any messenger software (skype, yahoo) and connect your webcam and mic there as well

try to to see if it is plug on the right mic socket, usually pink. and make sure that you record directly on your mic,
go to control pannel choose sound and audio devices (on vista and window 7 just search for sound and devices or the volume control on the startmenu), and click on the advance button.
choose option properties and choose recording
make sure that you check the mic and increase the volume as musch as possible
try to adjuct the mic setting on the skype by calling the sound test service

login your skype then when loged on upper of skype look for call then click it then go to audio setup then adjust the mic then test it
or
might be the weak connection is problem
or
try testing you mic on ym or recording like sound recorder if not working your mic need to be replace or not inserted properly check it for proper connection of your mic
