Hi,

As a computer technician, I highly recommend you to just replace it. It's always cheaper and more economical than rebuilding it.

Thank you for visiting FixYa! have a good one.

What is the maximum ram capacity of dimension 8200 motherboard

2 gygabytoes are usually the max, you could upgrade the OS to maybe Windows XP 64 bit, but this isn't worth it in such an olde machine! Throw it out and get yourself an ASUS laptop with Windows 7 64-bit, a solid state HD and 4 or more gigabytes of ram instead!.

After a virus infected my Dell dimension 2350 (XP), I replaced the hard drive with one running Windows 7. After increasing my RAM, I still have some serious resolution problems on my Samsung 172N moni

Hey Tim,.
Once you installed Windows 7 onto the hard drive you would need to have installed the drivers. The one driver that is needed for resolution is the video card. You can right click on the desktop and then choose screen ressolution to see if you can change the resolution. Unfortunately, Dell does not have any Windows 7 drivers for the Dimension 2350 system.

Thank You,

Loading PBR for descriptor 2... MODEL DELL DV051

That is the boot loader message to boot to the NTFS Primary boot partition (Primary Boot Record for Descriptor 1 is the Utility partition)
Normally, this message flashes and the system boots, since it is not there is a failure in the boot process.
#1 run diags on the Hard Drive (CTRL+ALT+D at boot) and see if it passes
If it does
#2 Boot to you XP CD, press R for recovery console, and run the COMMAND CHKDSK /R see if the system will boot
If no go, go back to recovery console, try the command BOOTCFG /Rebuild then see if the system will boot
If That fails, try reinstalling Windows
If Diags Fail or all the above fail, replace the hard drive

Can i get star trek online to run on my dimension 4600, i upgraded grapics card and am now using geforce 6200. is there a better card that will work with the power supply? or do i need 2 start rebuilding...

Well personally, IF the best video card that is in the system, now, & you can afford and want to, then I would build up a new system.. New Motherboard, for a Quad Core, with Dual Video PCI-e slots, and get a pair of Video cards for a great system. At least 4GB RAM & a 7200RPM 8MB cache Drive. you'll wonder how you did without it.

I would like to buy a new dell but not sure how much memory i would need. I don't recall how much memory is in my previous dell. It is a dell dimension xp. Would you please let me know how many GB there...

With any new computer you should get 4 GB of memory, the more the better. There are two version of Windows you can get 32 or 64 bit. The 32 bit version of Windows has a 4 GB maximum on the memory, the 64 bit versions go much higher depending on the version you get. 4 GB will give most people more than enough to do what they need. To see how much memory you currently have just Right-Click on the My Computer icon and select properties. In the window that comes up you will see the memory you currently have.

New motherboard

Sad news is, trying to find a celeron motherboard.
It's best if you purchase a new computer altogether.
If you go and replace the motherboard, then you need a new pcu, power supply, Ram, reinstall Windows..you get the picture.
Best to save up and buy a new computer.

Upgrade a dell dimension 4500-p3 motherboard to a duo or quad motherboard

You can do this with case modification as well as a new psu as Dell used proprietary mb's, psu's & cases on this model Dimension. To tell you the truth it would probably be cheaper and easier to pick up a core2duo or quad barebones kit than trying to modify the Deimension. Just my opinion. Remember Dell psu's are not wired the same as industry standard and their motherboartds in these older units are not top quality. Hope this helps you out.

I need a new processor and motherboard for a dell dimension 3000

By the time you spend all that money you could have bought you a new Intel 2.8Ghz dual core processor with 4GB of RAM..keep the one you have for stuff you want to experiment with and buy yourself a new computer

Want to buy more RAM..

Your dell dimension takes DDR ram. These are the specs:

Supported pin types: 184 pin DIMM (regular desktop DDR ram)
Supported memory types: DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200
Supported speeds: 333mhz or 400mhz
Supported stick sizes: 128mb, 256mb, 512mb or 1gb.
MAXIMUM MEMORY ALLOWED: 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks)

If you buy two of these you will max out for ram and give you the best performance::
