Dell Dimension Shut Down

Yesterday afternoon was very hot and muggy here in California and the cooling fan in my Dell Dimension 3000 was reved up to maximum. (I leave the computer on all the time.) When I came in this morning the computer had turned itself off, the red light on the battery back up was on and beeping.

All other computers/lights were still on and there had been no power interruption. Why did the Dell shut down, and why was the battery backup beeping and turned off?

Thanks

Hi

You query suggest you have Dell Dimension 3000. Dell Dimension 3000 is a desktop PC and does not have a battery backup by itself.

I am assuming the battery backup you are referring to is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). If this is correct then by your description of the issues, the UPS may be faulty (indicated by the Red light and beeping).

Disconnect the computer's power cord from the UPS and connect it to a wall power outlet to confirm or rule out the UPS as the offending device.

If this does not help reply with more info

How do I remove and replace a CPU cooling fan on my Dell Dimension 2400

Make sure u can open the casing well to expose the interior parts without causing any damage. Then by close look at the processor area , that is where the heat sink is located. Normally the dell dimension 2400 has a green channel shaped structure that acts as a passage for the air that enters in and out for cooling the heat sink. It has a locking parts that slides into the casing back by slight pressing to the back of the casing just behind the processor area, be so observant to notice the locking parts. then the fan is just fixed behind that green " channel like" and its fixed on the rear side of the casing, 25275582-o0cuhlgwrl13okm3u3q5444d-5-0.jpg

Once the cooler is out unscrew the fan and go with it to a pc shop and get an similar one - make sure it has the same number of wires.

Blower does not shut down when machine is put in standby

That fan is your lifeline and definitely SHOULDN'T shut off until your PC has cooled down. If it remains running at hi speed for an extended period, you may have too much dust in your PC. Remember, standby mode is not the same as off mode, and the PC will require some cooling even in this mode.

I changed the CPU fan on Dell dimension 3000 but it does not run.

Dell uses a proprietary fan on it's cpu's. This is more than likely your problem. The motherboard does not recognize the new fan and the motherboard is not powering it on. Without replacing the motherboard you are stuck using dell replacement parts for this model. The motherboard & psu are also proprietary in this model so it would take a whole lot of modification to use anything but Dell replacement parts. Your pc is shutting down due to overheating. Sorry. Hope this helps.

Every time i start the pc there is a thermal error message the sound of three beeps then shut down unless pc is left off 48 hours error message.

Thermal event are serious, (too hot) make certain of your fan/fans are working. Clean out the dust that has accumulated. Use you computer in a cool environment if possible. If the error continues, purchase some Arctic 5 ceramic paste take off your heat sync apply a very thin coat to the bottom of the heat sync (after you clean it of course) replace the heat sync.
Also pull out the ram (memory) and reseat it.
This should take care of it. If not please ask again.

Cooling fan Dell Dimension 3000

That is the correct way. It is a newer design that keeps the hot air from the CPU heatsink out of the case. 35C is a good temp.

CPU cooling fan

Hi...you can press the F2 key to enter setup...and scroll down until the fan is highlited...hit enter and then F10 to save and exit. This tells the computer its OK.
you should have plugged the fan in the same pin port the old fan was in. Usually only 1,.
If the new fan is not from dell..it may be faster and noiser..or it may be faulty..if you bought it locally you may try to return it.
The purpose of the fan of course is to remove the hot air from the CPU to keep it from overheating. If this fan does it it is most likely ok.
Hope this helps..
