It might be reccomended to change your update settings. You have to be able to turn your computer off, right?

  1. Click Start, then Control Panel
  2. Top right corner, under Search, click sort by > Small Icons
  3. The very last item in the list should be Windows Update; click it.
  4. In the left panel, click Change Settings
  5. Under Important Updates, where it has a drop down box, select "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"
  6. Click OK
Now, ideally, what will happen is Windows will check for updates, then notify you by saying there are updates. Whether or not you want to download and install will now be your choosing.

We did this because, every now and then, some of the Windows updates just... Don't install, to be frank. It happens to many people and this is the simplest solution.

Hope that helps!

Maybe you could try updating via Windows Update. It may fix it, as it won't need the update when you shut it down.

Y550 cmos battery

The CMOS battery on the Y550 is considered to be non-replaceable by Lenovo. It is soldered directly to the motherboard itself. You can check out this youtube video on the disassembly of the Y550. At the 14:22 minute mark on the video you can see where this battery is. At the top right of the video you will see a big green INTEL chip (upside down). To the right of the bottom of the Intel chip, you will see a round blue component. This is the battery.

If you were handy with a soldering iron, you could un-solder and replace this battery, but the average consumer would not be able to replace it. Lenovo will most likely require you to purchase a new motherboard.

Here is a better look at the battery from an ebay listing:

In this picture the battery is the blue round button looking component to the left of the Intel chip.

Lenovo Y550 has been sitting without being used for many months. I tried to power up today with the AC adapter plugged in. It tries to start, the disk drive symbol flashes on for a second of two, and...

The power supply may have an issue. I would leave it charging in the off condition over night and if the battery takes a charge and the system starts up when you turn the laptop on, that will prove the power supply ... that may well recover as the capacitors re form.

Format laptop lenovo y550

Note: Format would delete all of the data(like pictures, documents.) from the computer. Make sure, you back up all of your important data before formating the hard drive.
1. Insert operating system disk. 2. Shut down and restart the computer. As soon as, you restart the computer, start tapping 'Spacebar' key. Now, this would start loading from disk. 3.Hit F8 to accept the license agreement. 4.Hit enter 5. Enter Enter again and follow the on screen instruction and this would format your hard drive.
Note: once you format the hard drive, you would need to install drivers as well. Make sure you have the drivers and utilities disk as well.

For Lenovo S10 to restore to factory settings follow the steps below:-

  • Turn off your Lenovo. (i mean shut down and make sure it’s power off)
  • Now press on the “One Key Recovery” key at the top of your Keyboard, your Lenovo S10 should boot up. Else hold down the “One Key Recovery” key until it boot up.

  • Now you may choose “Restore to factory settings” from the screen and proceed for the restoration.
** the restoration will first check if your windows files has been corrupted, if yes, then it will restore it to the original state and no restore is required. else it will continue with the restoration
