Question about Franklin Chef FCR36OD Outdoor 4.8 cf Refrigerator, Stainless Steel

1 Answer

Hello. I have a Franklin Chef model FCR360D that I've had for 5 years. This is the first time I've had a problem with it. The beverages inside are cool but not cold. I have the thermostat set at 4 of 6 and it runs 24/7. I don't use this fridge in the winter months. It is stored away upright and covered. Last week I took out all beverages, turned it off for one day, then started again only to realize it didn't help. Again, beverages are cool, just not cold. It does sit in a shady area all day too. Any suggestions? Could it be a refrigerant problem? Thanks for your time. Brian.

Yes, what you have is a refrigeration problem....
The refrigerant system has probably developed a leak and so now it will cool a bit, but not get cold.
To fix this it would require the system to be evacuated, the leak found and fix and then the system recharged...doing this may cost more then it is worth.

Many timesa freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condensercoil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Hi there,

This sounds like a bad capacitor to me. You can replace it with a new one, just make sure you mark the electrical poles correctly when you remove it so you won't have any problems placing them back when you get a new one.
If you are uncomfortable in replacing this part, I suggest you contact your local ref technician and have it replaced for you. You can buy a new one around $45.

Hope this helps.

Fans run compressor get hot soits running but it is not cooling.

Its hard to say for sure, but, either it is out of refrigerant or the valves in the compressor are bad.
It the compressor may also be seized. If its hot, but you don't hear it running it's locked up. Hit the compressor with a hammer while its plugged in...(seriously). If it starts run, it's probably going to lock up again and you should see about getting it replaced.

My franklin chef fcr360d fridge needs a new compressor. My service guy told me that since they are out of business he can't get a replacement part. Any suggestions on how (if) I can get one anywhere...

I contacted three of our "off the grid" suppliers that normally have parts that others don't and was told that none of them have the compressor. They didn't even have a suggestion on a compressor that would be the same size and rating as the compressor on the Franklin Chef - BUT since it was primarily sold as an outdoor refrigerator that had to stand up to the elements - they had no suggestions that could be used.

Sorry, but there just doesn't seem to be anything left in anyones stock piles for your unit.
