System disks startup

Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

"This will show you how to create a Windows 7 system repair disc to use to boot to the system recovery options if you don't have a Windows installation disc, can't find your Windows installation disc, or can't access the recovery options provided by your computer manufacturer."

If you do not have access to either disc: Windows 7 - Repair Disc download

http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

a) Insert the Windows 7 System Repair DVD or Installation DVD and reboot.

b) Select the correct keyboard input method and click 'Next'.

Note: If you are using the Windows7 Install DVD then at the 'Install Now' prompt (Do not pick the Install Now option) instead choose the 'Repair your computer' option located in the lower left of the dispay.

c) The System Repair tool will search for a valid operating system and will report that "Windows found problems with your computer's startup options.

Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer?"

d) Click 'Repair and restart' and reboot again to the Windows 7 System Repair environment.

e) Click 'Next' at the keyboard selection prompt and when the 'System Recovery Options' screen appears verify that the "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows" is selected.
Note that on your Dual Boot system there now should be only one operating system listed. Click the 'Next' button.

f) Now from the menu list select the 'Command Prompt' option.

g) At the DOS prompt type the following three commands:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

bootrec.exe /fixboot (may return an 'Eliment not found' message)

bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

h) Close the command prompt window and click the 'Startup Repair' option.

i) The repair process may take some time, so wait until the process completes at which point you will see two messages "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

These messages are the result of the radical changes made by removing the other drive. Ignore the Send/Don't send options.

J) Close this message window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the Send/Don't send window.

Next click on the 'View advanced options for system recovery and support' option and from the main menu once again click 'Startup Repair'.

This time the repair process may only that a few seconds and when prompted "Startup Repair could not detect a problem", click 'Finish' and run the 'Startup Repair' option one more time, click 'Finish', and then remove the System Repair DVD and click 'Restart'. Reboot the computer.

hope this helps

Emachines 3240 windows xp home edition need to reset to factory settings no disc

Did this come with a recovery disc and you lost it? If it didn't come with one you may have a recovery partition that you can boot to. If there IS a recovery partition you should see a message on bootup that will tell you what button to push to startup to the recovery partition. If you DON'T have a recovery partition your only options are a clean install with a Windows installation disc or to call emachines (gateway) to see if they have a disc to send you.

You can contact them by following the instructions here:

I need to press a key on my keyboard to start factory recovery

Hi and welcome to Fixya!

In order to revert the machine back to its factory setting, you need to have the recovery disk (if you don't have it, call the warranty support line of e-machines so they can provide it to you).

To restore Windows from your recovery discs, you will need to
insert the first backup disc and enable the F12 Boot Menu via the BIOS Setup
Utility.
1 Turn on your computer and insert the first system recovery disc into the
optical disc drive. Restart your computer.
2 During startup when the eMachines logo shows, press the F2 key to enter
BIOS Setup, where you can set system parameters.
3 Use the left and right arrow keys to select the Main submenu.
4 Use the up and down arrow keys to select F12 Boot Menu.
5 Use the F5 or F6 key to change F12 Boot Menu to Enabled.
6 Press the ESC key to enter the Exit submenu, press the ENTER key to Exit
Saving Changes. Press the ENTER key again to select Yes. The system will
reboot.
7 After rebooting, when the eMachines logo shows, press the F12 key to
open the Boot Menu. Here you can select which device to boot from.
8 Use the arrow keys to select the IDE1*, then press the ENTER key. Windows
will be installed from the recovery disc.
9 Insert the second recovery disc when prompted, then follow the onscreen
prompts to complete the restore.
10 Remove the recovery disc from the optical drive once the restore is
complete. Do this before rebooting your computer.

Hope this helps!

My Emachine with Windows Vista keeps shutting itself down? What could be the problem?

The first step would be to turn off automatic restart on BSOD errors.

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Click on the System and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel you won't see this link. Simply double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step 4.
  3. Click on the System link.
  4. In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.
  5. Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.
  6. In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.
  7. Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window.
  8. Click OK in the System Properties window.
  9. You can now close the System window.
  10. From now on, when a problem causes a BSOD or another major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. Rebooting manually will be necessary.
Now when it errors it wont restart, instead it will give you an error message that we can use to troubleshoot your problem.

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Accessing EMachines W3107 Recovery Partion

You can fix this virus without recovering.

Log in normally. Go to run, type in msconfig and go to the startup tab. Uncheck everything and reboot your pc. Once there try your internet. If it's not working go to Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings, and uncheck anything in your proxy settings. Close IE and reopen. You should be able to connect. Then download and run Malwarebytes, and then run Bitdefender Online scanner.

The only other thing that may be trouble is that there may be a rootkit that neither scanner will detect. You can run Combofix, but this program isn't for the average user. Follow instructions carefully when using Combofix.

How do i get the setup disc or dvds?

Found other question....
The setup dvd is usually made when U turn the pc on for the first time. The system will want U to make them them called Recovery disks (dvd's).
Must be used machine and needs some TLC.
After shutdown, unplugged, open case and vacuum or blow out dirt. Clean fans and gently push connections to insure good connections. Power up to make sure all fans are working. Unplug and reassemble.
Boot up and run Disk Cleanup, then Defrag. Run MSconfig - startup tab and uncheck everything. Reboot.
The only thing that will shut down pc is overheating. If confussed, go to control panel to power options and read options, set accordingly.
U can create recovery disk by following directions in the Help and Support section.

Good Luck
