These problems are caused by a 40-pin cable that i used in the past for previous hardware (old drives)

You need to put in the 80-pin cable for the burner that came with the device.

No power on

Try connect it to other PC.Inspect the connectors inside the PC.

The drive doesn't have power.
• Is the power supply cable from the host computer plugged in?
• Is the Power Connector to the drive securely attached?
• The system doesn't start.
• Are the Primary and Secondary connections and the Master and Slave settings
correct?
• Is the total length of the IDE cable 18 inches or less?
• Is each connector completely attached?
Other connections may have been knocked lose while installing the drive.
• Cannot Read or Write Discs.
• Is the condition of everything else in the system (CPU, hard disc, and others)
as it should be? (See system environment page 2.)
• Does the CD or DVD disc have dirt or scratches?
• Did a screen saver or other application operate while writing to the disc?
• Is there enough free space on the CD, DVD and DVD-RAM disc?
• Does writing fail even using the simulation test?
• Is the disc loaded in the drive with the read/write surface facing the right
direction? (label up)
• Is the drive installed in the correct orientation?
• Was the drive or disc moved from a low temperature environment to a high
temperature environment? (There is a possibility of condensation on the lens in
the drive or on the surface of the disc.)
• Using a 40-pin IDE cable might bring the '04/08/03 error (LOGICAL UNIT
COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR (ULTRA-DMA/32))'.
In this case, substitute to 80-pin type IDE cable is highly recommended.
This kind of error is hardly detected from some specific motherboard

DMA driver error CRC error G sonyDVD RW AD 72605

CRC errors can occur due to many different types of problems. Some of these problems are:
  1. Damage to file during the transmission process.
  2. A problem occurred when the file was being sent.
  3. Problems with the device that is accessing or opening the file.
  4. Problems with the file itself.
Resolving CRC Errors
Let's now have a look at the methods you can use to resolve some of the common CRC errors on your Windows system.
Fixing Transmission Problems with Network and Modem
You may encounter CRC errors while trying to transmit files over a network or a modem connection if there are problems with the connection you are using or there are data collisions occurring during the transmission due to heavy traffic.
Additionally, you may receive CRC errors if you are not transmitting your file in a format that is compatible with the protocol being used for transmission. For instance, if you are sending a text file through an FTP or Telnet session, it must be sent in Text mode or as an ASCII file. Non-text files, however, must be transmitted as binary files.
To resolve these problems, you can try the following:
  • Ensure that there are no problems with your network or modem connection.
  • Try to retransmit the file.
  • Try sending the file using some other method or connection.
  • Ensure that the file was sent using the correct format.

Trying to burn photos from dell laptop to DVD-RW blank disc . "error - no disk in drive"

Try another disc first ,if no luck than try another disc manufacturer. If it does not help check if you can play anything from this drive if no, check drive connection in your laptop you can also can check BIOS settings for this DVDRW drive and settings for IDE or Sata data transfer mode make shure it works in Ultra DMA not PIO mode. Be carefull with BIOS Setup!!! If nothing helps replace drive. Good Luck!

Problem with LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S ATA Device

There is a whole bunch of helpful stuff at http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/196090-32-lite-dvdrw-160p6s-burning-problems
Seems that the drive may overheat, and will need replacement if in warranty. Some advice given: get another type drive. Also, check the device manager and make sure it's running in DMA mode and not PIO mode. If you have an nForceX mobo and using the SW IDE driver, reinstall with the normal IDE driver and try again. In device manager, check under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right-click and select properties on the IDE Channel your DVD recorder is attached to. Transfer mode should be set to "DMA if available". Current transfer mode should be "Ultra DMA Mode 4". If it says Mode 2: Your drive may be experiencing problems which are causing windows to drop its speed. There is a support article with a fix. To surmize:

After the Windows IDE/ATAPI Port driver (Atapi.sys) receives a cumulative total of six time-out or cyclical redundancy check (CRC) errors, the driver reduces the communications speed (the transfer mode) from the highest Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode to lower DMA modes in steps. If the driver continues to receive time-out or CRC errors, the driver eventually reduces the transfer mode to the slowest mode (PIO mode).

If you have dropped from DMA mode 4 to DMA mode 2, and you have a spare ribbon cable, you may want to try swapping it out. Also, if there is another device on the same channel as the DVD drive, try disconnecting it.

DMA drive error.

Its a problem with the windows dma seting for drives. In "device manager", open properties for ur drive and your interface like IDE/ATA controller. There, you can check and change DMA Settings.

Allow max DMA. Do not disable DMA.

U can also check DMA setting on BIOS if ur bios supports it.

YAMAHA CRW8424 gives Track following error..

PROBLEM DEFINITION: Basically, it is a hardware error that occurs when a drive is not capable of following a data track on a CD-R or CDRW or on the other hand, poor power flow may cause the problem SOLUTION: 1. Try use another disc, a disc with a different band. 2. If one doesn't work, you may have to open your system and use a different power connector, making sure no other devices are using the power connector in the same strand. 3. Lastly, if neither the above doesn't work, you may have to send your drive in for servicing as the head may be dirty or misaligned.
