  • Go to the Start menu, go to Run, and type "CMD" in the dialog box (without the quotes.)

  • 2 Now you should see a dark (DOS) window that looks just like the picture on the left of this article step.

Without the quotes, type "IPCONFIG" and press ENTER.

  • 3 Now you should see some network information, along with the IP ADDRESS of your computer listed. The Gateway address is the router's IP address.

  • If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

    Thanks, Joe

How do i reset the password to my 2wire router an connect a wireless laptop

Is your 2Wire Router by AT&T, if so the password is on the side or bottom of the router. Look for Network Key or Network Password on the router.

Once you have that, you simply go to your laptop, and try connecting to your wireless router. It will be the one with the strongest signal if you don't know your SSID. Once you click connect, it will ask you for the password/passphrase or key, type in what you found on the router.

There is really no need to reset the password unless you have some other reason. But there are 2 ways to reset the router's password, you will need to have a computer that is connected to the router with a network cable (most times this is a desktop already connected). Then you will need to know the router's IP Address to type into a internet browser. It will be a set of numbers such as that you would type into the address bar where you normally type www to get to a web page. Once you have the right ip address you will need the router's login id and password. Most times this is set to the default unless whoever set it up changed it. Once you are in the router then you go to the wireless and wireless security area to change the password. If you don't know the ip address or the userid and password for the router, then you can google it on the internet.

If your internet provider is AT&T you might be better off calling them to reset your router's password. They can walk you through it.

    I need a WPA for 2Wire 450. I don't have it

You can temporarily hardwire your computer to the router (connect via ethernet),
Open internet explorer and go to the GUI (graphic user interface), key in the default gateway ( in the address bar, then press enter (the address bar is the long white bar at the top part of intrnet explorer that says "address" in front.)
This will give you access to your router. go to the network tab, then wireless settings. You'll see several options for your 2wire's wireless function including resetting it.
Note: resetting the router should be your last resort

I want to know if my 2wire 2701HG-B supports WPS or AOSS? I'm trying to connect my laptop to my wireless printer but it goes through a Wireless Network which is my 2wire router obviously. If my router...

As long as you do not have your laptop set up on teh 2701HG-B's DMZ everything should work. I have the 2701HGV-B, almost the same except my can do VoIP, and I have my laptop running wirelessly and I can connect to the network printer.

Make sure the printer has a static IP address for your local LAN, which should be in the 192.168.X.X scope, or the printer will change IP addresses every time it resets and that will cause you to lose connection to it from the laptop.

As for WPS, there should be a sticker on the side of teh 2-Wire that has a 6 digital key number, all numbers no letters, that will be the WPS key.

    Hope that helps.

Did you manually assign the IP address to your shared devices? If so, the Linksys and the 2wire have different IP schemes.

    Wireless router

What is the make and model of your router?

What type of internet access do you have (DSL or cable)?

Are you connecting the computer with a cable or via wireless?

If you have verified that the cable connections are correct then I would try to power cycle next.

    1. Unplug the modem, router and turn off the computer.
    2. Plug the modem in and wait 5 minutes.
    3. Plug the router back in.
    4. Turn the computer back on.

Let me know the details for the above questions if we need to go further.
