Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

I have the Sony KDF-60XS955. It has a blue corner about 3 inches on the lower left-hand corner which is on all the time. Also, when there is a black screen, you can see small blue dots all over the screen.

Momkennedy13,

You have the fatal Sony KDF optical engine issue. Sony has had most if not all these models fail prematurely. The solution is to replace the optical engine. The problem is they are not available as a new unit only a repaired unit so the problem will no doubt reappear in the future. Many people have had success with contacting the Sony customer service representatives and can usually get them to sell you a new unit for a couple hundred dollars. For my money that would be the best way for you to go. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7851924-sony_projector_yellow_or_blue_dots which explains the problem and offers solutions.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

SOURCE: Blue dots and blue area on my screen

Your blue LCD panel is failing. It is within the Optical Block and the entire block must be replaced in order to repair this. Over time (usually a short amount of time) this problem while progress until the picture is bad enough that you will want it fix immediately. So, it's good that you are looking into this now :) Here is a PN for the Optical Block... PN: A-1084-668-A I hope this helps.

I have a permanent blue light encroaching the picture on the lower left corner of our sony kdf-60xs955 60". Replaced the bulb recently.

The Optical Block is probably the cause of the problem. I am not sure if it is still a Recall issue but due to the cost of the repair, I recommend you call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they can assist
in the cost of repairs and also to help locate a Service Facility to confirm the symptom.
I hope this helps,

It is problem of light engine (optical block) in TV and Lamp replacement does not solve it.
TV needs replacement of light engine, that is costly part.
