I am having the same problem. I can connect to the internet with my desktop or even with my laptop if I hook it directly up to the router. I can get a signal if I go to the router and refresh but as soon as I shut down my laptop, I have to go bring the laptop to the router when I start up. I have had the laptop and connected with no problems for about 2 weeks, not sure what happened that I am suddenly having problems. Thanks in advance for any help! Christy

Hi,

I want to tell you that if your deskto computer works fine upstair and your laptop is not it is seems to be that we have some issue with the laptop. But still you can try to change the channel on the router so that if your wireless card for laptop having some issue regarding channel it can be resolved. But i can also suggest you that you can upgrade the drivers for your wireless card for your laptop.

I believe that it will help you to resolve your concern.

Thanks & Regards

Can't connect to friends network

Hi,

They are four reasons why your wireless would say "acquiring network address" and later changing into "Limited or no connectivity"

1) Invalid WEP/WPA Encryption key.
2) Mac Filtering, Your friends might have disallowed the mac address of your laptop or he it might be filtered.
3) Short IP range mentioned on the router (May your friend has specified a short ip address range for DHCP)
4) Invalid configuration for wireless on Windows Vista

To this problem, do this on your laptop

1) Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center (Classic View) >> Manage Wireless network>> remove the wireless network by clicking and then right clicking on top of it and remove.
2) Now try to connect again to the wireless network, reenter the key and that should do it.

If this doesn't work, then probably you have to ask your friend about the 2 and 3 possible cause listed above.

Good luck!
And Thanks.

Network

hi wild11967

re homplugs let me infor you first that Homeplugs do have a minor advantage if they share the same leg but there is usually sufficient cross-coupling.Larger commercial buildings often have 3 phase where each phase has its own transformer. Homeplugs need to be on the same transformer.

Also Long extension leads will degrade the signal so it is best practice to plug the HomePlug directly into a wall socket As with the figures youve given above you dont NEED to purchase a new equipment such as a router as youd have the same issue with it.

Best thing to to check your circuitry as - limitations are as follows - the rings or circuits (such as upstairs and downstairs) mains must be on the same fuse box / consumer box.

If you have further questions let Fixya answer it for you .

Best wishes .
