Ok this happens when the user account don't have the permission to acces the folder, disk etc.
Verify that the account you are using have the permission to access it. Right click the object you are trying to access and choose properties, then security (I don't know your window versions but is very similar in all versions). Check if the user account show in the box and the type of permission. If is not in the list should be add. To add you need administrator account privileges. çlick edit and add the user and the type of permission to grant. window cannot access the specific - gabytek_1.gif

Go to add/remove windows components, then uninstall the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security component. Should solve your issue.

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Windows cannot access specified device path or file you may not have the appropriate permissions

Is your account an "administrator" account? This is important in 7 as well as Vista.

Also, did you install whatever it was to an external drive? If so, Windows 7 is bad about changing drive letters of external hard disks every time you restart. If this is the case, click your start orb and right click on "Computer" then left click on "Manage."

In the left pane, there will be "Disk Management." Click on it and give it a second for everything to populate. There are a list of all your drives in the middle towards the bottom. You can right click in their partitions and left click "change drive letter." From there you can change them back to what they where before and things will start working again.

As far as permissions go, they're a pain if you change stuff over manually. But, there is an easy way if you know specifically what folder or file you need permissions to use:
Add Take Ownership to Explorer Right Click Menu in Win 7 8 or Vista
This will add a right click context item where you can seize permissions quick like. It's SUPER handy.

Sounds like whatever you're trying to access is password protected. What exactly are you trying to access when you get this error message? You could also be getting this message because whatever you're trying to access has been corrupted.

Where is the file located? If on a network drive, then you either have a network problem and the path to the share is not being found, or you do not have the right credentials to access the share.
