My Radio Shack TRC-503 has the same problem. Did replacing the mic solve the problem? My radio had a bad speaker, and it worked great with another speaker hooked-up. But after installing a new speaker, it started doing feedback during transmit, no matter what speaker I use.

Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

I have to turn the volume wide open on my connex 3300 hpzx to be able to hear it . It recieves great but the volume is not load and i even tryed an extenal speaker on it

The RX wire could be broke in the mic cord. You will still get receive when you have the talk back is on, but it will be low. Try another mic.

How can i disconnect the talk back on a connex 3300 plus? pleasa be specific on directions. thanks

in older connex 3300's you cannot disable the talk back. Its part of the audio chain. If you disable the talk back you will loose your audio. There are 2 things you can do.

Hook a relay to the speaker so that when the radio key's id disconnects the speaker. (Big pain, not worth the trouble.)

The other will not disable the talk back but it will stop any squealing.

Use a noise canceling mic. An RK-56 will work great. You will get no squealing with that mic.

It comes on but not receiving

One of 2 reasons. First is common. Your mic or mic jack may be bad. The way the radio works, is the mic switch switched from receive and transmit. When the mic is not keyed then the switch is actually on receive, and when you key it, you switch it to transmit. So if there is something wrong with your mic, or it is not plugged in, the radio will not be in receive mode.

The next problem if a new mic doesn't solve the problem is...

there is an issue with your antenna or feed system. Make sure coax is good. Use an ohm tester. Make sure its not shorted.

Next make sure the antenna is good and tuned properly.

You may need to replace one or both.

The MC-44 mic for my Kenwood 2 meter TM-231A transceiver quit operating. It will not key the receiver. I am looking for a fix or a replacement mic for this radio. Thanks, Don

Sorry to waste your time. You need to mention on your home page that you charge for your help instead of waiting until the last page to let everyone know about it.

As it is with the world wide web and the search tools available to most people, a person can find 'free' fix it information from 'experts' most of the time now days. It makes them feel good about helping someone...I think?

Any way, thanks for your time.

Cant transmit

Hello Darren, Yes it sounds like the mic is wired bass ackwards,,! A cobra 25 mic wiring is
PIN #1- Shield or ground wire
PIN#2- Audio or Transmit modulation
PIN #3- Transmit or Dead Key
PIN #4- Receive Audio.
When your keying the mic, the RX wires are being connected to make the RX work,,,
*** Let me know how you get along with it. Either buy a new mic wired for your radio or you or someone comfortable with soldering needs to resolder the correct wires back on the mic plug,,,Like I said, let me know and have a great day,, Mechanic is back quiet!

Microphone

Hi,

If the radio receives OK and the TX red LED will not lit up when keying the mic, then it is a mic or mic cord or mic connector problem (or pin configuration). Internally to the mic, there is a switch for keying the PTT. This should be check down to the coiled cord to the connector.

If all of the above checks OK, then you would need to check the TX/RX regulator/switching circuitry.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
