Question about Sunbeam Grill Series 460

Open Question

On our rusty Sunbeam 460 BBQ grill, the igniter electrodes came off. They did work until this happened. I cannot see where to reattach them--there is no circular ports where it is obvious they would fit. There's a rectangular hole leading up to the two gas burners on bottom of the casing, but if there was something there to hold the two electrodes, it has rusted out or fell off and got thrown away (not by me).

SOURCE: How or where do we reinstall the rotary igniter

there should be three holes together, the center hole being larger than the two side holes. The shaft of the igniter goes through the larger center hole, and the screws to attach the igniter go through the smaller outside holes.

Replaced battery and unit still does not ignite

not enough information. is battery installed correct? are all the module spades attached or grounded? is gas flowing so the bbq can ignite with a manual lighter? are the electrodes coated with grease so they will not spark? Are the electrodes 1/8-1/4 inch at the tip so they are able to arc?

Cant get bbq to light

Make sure the battery is in correctly, then check the wires from the ingniter to the electrodes, if they are connected and ok, then check to see if there is a spark from the tip of the electrode to the collector box or burner. If there is no spark, then it could be the igniter, electrode or wire. Hard to tell with out trouble shooting.

Change the igniter on a thermos bbq

You may not have to change the igniter. It works like a spark plug (passing a small spark from an electrode (a small wire sticking from the bottom of the ceramic tube at the lower end of the igniter) to a metal plate positioned close to the tip. If the plate gets covered with soot or grease from cooking it won't work. Try cleaning the plate and bending it closer to the igniter tip. If the igniter is really bad and needs replacement, you can get a new one at most hardware stores. Installation is very easy.

The rotisserie heating element does not fire up on my barbeques galore grand turbo BBQ. Electric ignite seems to be working, but smell gas no heat

The rotisserie should have a thermocouple near the burner. If you have to hold in the knob, or push a red button to get the gas to flow to the burner, and the electrode sparks and the burner lights, you have to continue to hold the knob or button in until the thermocouple gets hot enough to keep the gas on. If the burner keeps going out, you could have a bad thermocouple.

Weber gas grill will not ignite

you will probably have to get a new igniter or try to adjust the one you have. there is a little electrode on the igniter that needs to be clean and a certain distance away to work properly.

If you place a flame on the electrode tip and it starts to spark shortly afterward, replace the electrode.
