Have you got the manual with it? It will tell you where/when to oil the machine but many newer ones have nylon gears and internal oiling wicks which get lubricated during a service. So if the manual says nothing about oiling, then I would just brush out the bobbin holder area and keep it clean.

Your bobbin issue is a bit confusing, does the bobbin wind when you follow the manual instructions to fill it? There is usually a spindle device that it will sit on, and an activation needed, either flicking the spindle against a stopper, and pressing a button. Or disengaging a clutch on the flywheel then using the foot control to drive it.

All of this should be in your manual and if this is the first time you have used it in four years, then I would say that you definitely need to refer to the manual to learn how to use this machine. If you don't have one, then its a really good idea to buy one. Just try www.Elna.com and go to your country to find contact details for them. There are several websites too that sell manuals and parts, www.sewusa.com, www.sewingpartsonline.com or on Ebay.

Sorry this is not more specific but I can't access a copy of the manual for this model. Saying that, if this was a new machine and you have a Elna dealer nearby, ring them and ask if they hold classes or if they could give you a quick 15 min refresher sometime too.

I know this question was posted a long time ago, but just in case anyone else has the same problem thought I'd share this: it's from the instruction manual for the Elna 2003, 2005, 2007.

L have an Elna 1010 that has never been plugged in. Do I need to oil it before I use it? Is it ready to go after all these years?

check in the manual and see if it's self oiling or not,, some
machine parts are soaked in oil from the factory & don't need
to be oiled other machines have to be oiled,,if the manual doesn't
say then contact elna customer service and ask them.
I won't promise the machine will work or won't work if it's been
sitting for years ,sometimes the grease can become sticky and
hard.
you'll be able to tell as soon as you start sewing, make sure you
read the manual completely, that way you know what the machine
will do and what it won't do.
always use the proper needle for the fabric
and the proper foot
if you go over a seam and the machine seems to struggle, take your
foot off the foot pedal and use the handwheel to move the needle
manually over the seam, that way you don't bend a needle and cause
the machine to jump time.
also make sure to have a comfortable chair and good lighting and
a good seam ripper just in case of a mistake.
if you get frustrated while sewing, get up and walk around, that can
help clear your mind, I've had to do that plenty of times and I've
been sewing for 30 years.
if you don't have a manual send me a comment and I'll try to find you one.
there are several websites that have tutorials and other things for
a quilter,,
happy sewing

Where do I oil my elna 2007

This image shows that you need to oil the needle bar bearings and the rotary hook area. Also, always brush clean the rotary hook area after each use as keeping lint ouf of moving metal parts will prolong the life of any sewing machine and let the oil do its job.

Also, use good quality clear sewing machine oil, just a drop in the points indicated.

Should I oil my Elna 3005 sewing machine?

Many of the new models do not require oiling.

Check the maintenace section of the manual for cleaning the shuttle area. Sometimes lint can build up and cause the machine to get noisy.

If it has been over a year since the machine was serviced, it may be time for a proffesional tune-up.

I was given an Elna Supermatic 722010 and am not sure how to wind the bobbin.

A link to a supermatic manual is here
http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/Supermatic.pdf - I suggest you download this and print it out as this machine is over 50 years old now and manuals are scarce.

Disengage the clutch by holding the outside of the fly wheel and turning the inner knob of the wheel towards you.
You need to take the thread from the spool across to an eyelet on top left, then back to the bobbin winder, up through a hole in the top of the bobbin and hold the thread tail. Flick the bobbin across against the stopper. Now press the presser foot or knee control to start the motor. Hold the thread tail until youve got coverage across the bobbin enough to hold the start, then stop winding and cut the thread tail with scissors. Now continue winding but put the handle of your scissors on top of the thread spool to stop it bouncing and ensure your thread winds smoothly and under tension.

Watch the bobbin fill and give the thread a nudge to fill top and bottom as well as the middle evenly, you want a nice even wind. Fill to 3/4 and stop, flick bobbin back off the stopper, then cut the thread. Remember to re-engage the clutch by reversing the first step.

This is a lovely heirloom Elna machine - you need to thread the bobbin as the manual describes and get the thread into the tension spring. Please read the manual information on oiling too, this machine needs to be oiled on the red spot locations every time you use it according to the manual, use good quality clear sewing machine oil for this purpose.

Elna Carina Zig'Zag Stitch Issue

Over time, and especially when not used, there is a likelihood of dust and old oil forming a sort of glue, or clag....

Remove the needle for safety, then, when you have the setting on Zig zag, gently push the needle arm to the opposite side of the zig stitch.......release the needle arm, and if it springs back quickly, it is fine, if it moves slowly, or almost not at all, then the clag needs removing with application of few drops of methylated spirit to start, at the sort of piston affair that shifts needle arm L & R .....move the needle arm back & forth until it frees up, a drop of oil to finish.........if almost seized, may require leaving overnight after using a penetrating lubricant if it is really resistant....I have had them on the bench for 3 days with manual manipulation a few times each day before they finally come good.
