Question about Mtd Products Yard Machines 158CC Tiller

Open Question

I have a Briggs and Stratton (135202) tiller that starts but dies a few seconds later. I see an aluminum tube that goes from the carburetor to the engine. At both ends are rubber hose pieces that connect the tube to the carburetor and to the engine. Those rubber hose pieces are dry rotted. Could this be the problem. If so, where could I get new rubber hose pieces? Any help would be appreciated!

Briggs and Stratton intek 900 Series 205cc It will starts but it wont stay running.

The usual cause for the problem you describe is related to fuel/
carburetion. Today's formulation of gasolines have a shelf life of only 4-6 months before they start gumming carburetor. Other forms of fuel contamination (dirt, water, etc) may also be the culprit. First step is to remove and thoroughly clean both the tank and carburetor. Reinstall. Install a small engine filter in the gas line when you reassemble. Use FRESH gasoline after you are ready to start your engine.

Could be 2 things: a restriction in your fuel line/coming out of the tank, or 2: a dirty carburetor needing to be removed, cleaned and possibly rebuilt and reinstalled. Hope it's one of those.Start with pulling the fuel line loose from the carburetor. If you have fuel flowing freely, plug the hose with a golf tee and move onto removing the carburetor. Carb kits are cheap and easy to install. It's best to rebuild while you have it off to avoid similar problems later.

your carburetor needs cleaning &,or otherwise before this, try removing the "sediment-bowl" located under the carburetor, needs removal and checking for water and dirt in this bowl and possibly new gasoline in the gas tank, if contaminated with water/dirt after purging all lines after this

The engine doesn't start. I didn't use it for several years. It started and ran well for about an hour; when I shut it off, I could not restart. I have tried the obvious...new plug, putting started

You need to give the carburetor a good cleaning, as well as the air filter. Chances are the carb. will need a new carb. kit since it has been years since you last used it. If you need tips on how to clean the carb., just let me know.

What year was the tiller made with model #135202 made

That model was made in the mid 1970's by several manufacturers. Most had a Briggs and Stratton Engine. You could call Briggs & Stratton Customer Support: (414) 259-5333. If anyone can get you the manual, perhaps they can.
