First you need to know the
density of that particular rock. Then, find its volume by:
Volume = Mass (400tons) / Density
After that, multiply by the Bulk Factor.
Bulk factor of 1.6 means that when you dig 1 cubic metre of rock
it bulks to 1.6 cubic metres in the lorries.
Google calculator gives 1US ton = 907.185 kg
If your ton is US ton, then 400ton = 400*0.907185 or
362.874 kg
-----------------------------
Example: Sandstone (porous): Density = 2.5 kg/m3
(ref.
https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML0807/ML080700314.pdf)
Uncut 400 us tons of this Sandstone then has a volume of 362.874kg / 2.5kg/m3, giving
145.15 m3
Now get your
cut volume by multiplying by the bulk factor.
This gives: 145.15 m3 x 1.6 =
232.24 m3
Hope this is what you wanted.
