Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

When my bose wave radio/cd player is on for any length of time, the radio automatically comes on. At first you can push the power button and get it to go off. Eventually, the radio will not go off and none of the buttons work. The last time I used the radio, it lasted less than two days before I had to unplug it. Nothing has been spilled on the radio and no other damage that I am aware of. What suggestions do you have for repairing this?

Hi there,

I think you would have to take it to a local technician to check if there is a short circuit on the board of the player. Normally this happens if there is a faulty capacitor.

Hope this helps!

Control buttons will not work on my bose wave AWRC3G.

Unfortunately, the push buttons can become oxidized on their contact surfaces, making them intermittant at best, to useless. Can you operate these functions with the remote control?

Cleaning stuck control buttons on Wave Radio/CD

Mine was made in 1999 and the push buttons have become "sticky"
over time (dust, humidity, whatever) and the CD tracks would skip.
The buttons are on top on my Model AWRC-1P (it's not a front-loading
CD model) so there is no access to do maintenance.

I called BOSE customer service (very helpful and pleasant folks) to
hear that there is no "fix" to the sticky button issue. Wipe the case
with a very damp cloth to take off surface dirt, and that's it.

I asked if I could use my CleanSafe aerosol "Dust Remover" that I
have to blast dust and lint from my computer - yes, was the tech's reply
but - - - ONLY IF IT IS "moisture-free" (which it is!) Point and shoot
the blasts of air into the buttons a couple of times and, voila!! No
more sticky functioning! Now the CD tracks move up and down
without a problem, good as new (almost, it is ten years old).

The Bose tech said that usually the CD player goes out in time. They
only can be serviced by Bose (about $125 for an overhaul) in Framingham MA - they do offer (or had offered) a trade-up exchange for $199 to a
new CD/radio but without the buttons and other features of my old
model. Call 800-637-8781 for Bose Service (M-F Eastern time).

Hope this is helpful info, it solved my sticky buttons problem!

I copied some music to a disk with 4 different formats but the bose radio wont play any of them.

The Bose Wave Radio doesn't have a CD player. The Bose Wave Radio/CD does.

It will only play standard music CD's with standard CD Audio on them.

The manual is available at

I have had a boise radio abdcd olayer for some time and know very little about its operations. today i played a cd and left the house and expected it to stop as it usually does. however, it keeps on...

With the typos and all it's just a guess, but I'll assume you mean the Bose Wave radio.

I suspect the CD Mode button has been pushed so that the mode is set to REPEAT.

The manual for the Bose Wave Radio / CD is here:

My Bose Wave radio/cd players digital clock has stopped working. Please help! It will work for a few seconds when I push one of the buttons. Then it will not show the time.

Hey there...All you have to do is press the CD MODE button while you press the on/off button and it will fix it. This happened to me as well and I thought that I was going crazy...I changed the 9 volt battery but finally got it to work.

Bose wave radio signal fades in and out, cd stops and starts

i would check the power supply for bad solder joints or cracks in the traces on the printed circuit board, possible around the heaviest components (usually a transformer) or a loose connector. You can use the eraser end of a pencil to push on components to see if any of them cause the problem to manifest, and if so, turn off the power and reheat the solder connections to that component.

I gave the Bose Wave Radio and 3-cd player to a friend for

Unplug and plug back in. It should go through a automatic process, ejecting any discs that are inside. If all you hear is a mechanical noise, try this again only with the disc trays facing the ceiling.

Non-working CD in Bose wave radio

Try replacing the battery on the bottom of the system - alot of people miss it because you have it constantly plugged into the mains, but replacing this (somehow) re-sets the system, and 9 times out of 10 solves the issue.

No power

Unfortunately Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists, effectively giving them a monopoly on repairs. Their web site,, offers to repair most Wave radios for $100 or to give owners of broken sets a $200 allowance towards the purchase of a new Wave. Before spending the big bucks though, you might want to check out the new HD radios. Better sound and a MUCH lower price.
