Question about Canon CanoScan LiDE 30/N1240U
What version of Windows 7 do you have? To determine your version of Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel. Then select System and Security and then click on System. If you see x64, you have the 64-bit version.
If you have the 32-bit version, you may be able to use the Vista driver that is available here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide_30#DriversAndSoftware . You may need to use the compatibility mode. Save the file during the download. Then right click on it and select Properties. Choose the Compatibility Mode tab and select Vista. Then right click on the driver file again and choose Run As Administrator.
If you have the 64-bit Windows 7, you need to use a different workaround. You need to use a computer (virtual, dual-boot, or true second machine) with an older version of Windows installed. If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can create a virtual XP computer for free. Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft. Install them in order. Then install the XP software from the above Canon site in the virtual computer and it will work. (Other virtual computer programs are Parallels and VMWare.) All of the other options will require a licensed version of the older Windows OS. Please note that the virtual computer can't share files directly with the main computer. You'll need to save files to external or removable media (optical media or flash drive, for example) to share them.
Canon has no plans to build 64-bit drivers for the scanner.

Go to site
and select OS as Vista and language as English and press submit
and download windows vista drivers.
you can use Vista driver in Windows 7 using Compatability Mode.
1. Right click on driver installation file.
2. choose properties
3. choose compatability tab
4. select Vista
5. press ok
6. Install the driver
