Can you advise how to remove the side panels. I have removed the top cover.

  • ianiven May 25, 2011

I do not understand your answer to my question regarding how to remove the side covers. What has the switch got to do with my problem. Your first comment suggested I remove the top and side covers to check the steam boiler for calcium buildup. As I indicated, I have removed the top cover but cannot remove the side covers (housing). It looks like the guts of the unit should pull straight up out of the housing, but it won't. Is there a release at the bottom?
I am also not sure that your solution is correct. The unit was fully serviced 6 month ago and last week I did a chemical clean. I therefore do not think it is calcium buildup. What about the steam boiler? Hot water only comes out of the nozzle when set for steam.

My question - "how to remove the side panels (housing)" has still not been answered. If I can't remove the housing I cannot check anything.
Would it be the fuse as I get hot water - but no steam from the nozzle?

Hello.
This issue is due to the secondary coil not working. it is a multi coil heat system to allow for different settings, this coil can only be accessed by a specialist unfortunately.

Hi,

If you think that the steam boiler is ok, then you may have a fuse that is blown for the steam boiler.

Hi ianiven,

Your Saeco Vienna do have a separate heating system for steam. One of the common reasons why there's no steam produced is that the machine is full of scale. To clean it this requires you to remove the top and side panel. Follow the Teflon pipe from the steam wand and it will lead you to the steam solenoid valve and the small copper steam heating system. You have to disassemble both. You can then, remove any scale and dirt. After cleaning, assemble the machine.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Descaling Single Boiler Home espresso machines (HOME SINGLE BOILER ESPRESSO MACHINES)

Approximately every 3 months (depending on your use and the water hardness), clean the machine with natural citric acid based decalcifying agent.
1. Add a descaling solution into the water reservoir. Mix thoroughly to dissolve (use warm water for better results).
2. Remove the filter holder and place a cup under the group head and another cup, or other container, under the steam wand to catch cleaning solution.
3. Turn espresso machine on, turn coffee pump on and run approximately 8 oz. of solution through the brew head. Turn machine off and let the machine sit for 15 minutes.
4.Run approximately 8 oz. through the steam wand, and again, turn machine off and let sit for 15 minutes.
Repeat by allowing solution to run alternately through the steam wand and brew head. Turn espresso machine off after each cycle. Repeat process until solution has been run through.
5. Do not leave espresso machine on. Do not wait for the ready light to come on. Do not use the steam switch during this process. Do not allow reservoir to run empty!
6. Rinse reservoir thoroughly with fresh water. Refill reservoir with fresh water. Run half a tank of fresh water through group head, alternating between group head and steam wand.

I had this problem on my Saeco Vienna Digital a while back. I read somewhere just to keep on ventilating, even if it took 20 hoppers of water. Sure enough after about 16 cycles, I heard a change in the noise and looked to see the ventilate sign was gone.
