One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electical extension or fan lead can cause this problem
hope this helps

another possiblity if you have a set up disk
Restart your computer with the XP Setup disk in the CDROM drive. If you are prompted to press a key to start the computer from CDROM, do so quickly. Otherwise it may try to boot from the hard drive. After a few minutes, you'll see a prompt to press the R key to start the Recovery Console. When Recovery Console starts, it will prompt you to enter a number corresponding to the Windows XP installation that you need to repair. In most cases, you'll enter "1" (which will be the only choice). If you press ENTER without typing a number, Recovery Console will quit and restart your computer. Enter your Administrator password. If you don't enter the correct password, you cannot continue. At the Recovery Console command prompt, type fixmbr and then verify that you want to proceed. Your damaged MBR will be replaced with a shiny new one, and you should then be able to boot your system normally. In some cases, you may need to repair the boot sector in addition to the MBR. If your system still doesn't boot properly, repeat the steps above, but issue the fixboot command instead. Hope this helps

You shouldn't have to change any jumpers. The only jumper I see is to reset the bios.

SOURCE: 250gb sata hard disk to 845 glad mother board

Hi,
The Power Cable is usually supplied With The computer Cases PSU. newer Power-Supply-Units Usually Have 1 Or 2 SATA Power Cables Attached.
secondly, the motherboard will provide the SATAs Data Connections. ( Usually look Like a Black Plastic ) Letter L shape connector.
Solution. Upgrade Motherboard And Power-Supply-Unit.
Alternative, look on e-bay or similar site, to find a SATA/PCI Card. And A SATA Power Supply Cable.

Any sata hdd can't dected by the mother board but any sata dvd dected by the mother board. what kind of procedure i followed now?

Your motherboard CAN detect a SATA device.
Your motherboard DOES detect your SATA optical device.
Your motherboard does NOT detect your SATA disk-drive.

This suggests that your disk-drive is "dead".
Exercise the WARRANTY on it, to get it repaired/replaced.
Or, if the warranty has EXPIRED, purchase a new SATA disk-drive.

Sata power supply with ide only mother board?

Unlike IDE drive cables, which allow you to connect at least 2 drives to the same cable, SATA cables only allow one connection from motherboard to drive per cable. You can connect as many SATA drives to your motherboard as you have SATA connections.

MOTHER BOARD cant read storage disk.

That sound can be the SATA drives spindle is going. Suggest you replace the drive before you can not get the data off it. Check the Mfg of the drive, it may be warranted.

Good luck!

Hard drive installation

You should be able to install that drive. The biggest variable is if it is a SATA or PATA drive. This model was built for SATA drives, but I think you may be able to get a PATA drive to work with the right adapters.

For the step by stem directions see the link below. It will take you right to the Dell support page. Refer to the "Adding a Second Hard Drive" section.
