I have the same problem with my Impact S305 - stupidly downloaded firmware today and now can't print wont print. I am furious and will never by Lexmark again. It is like buying a kodak camera and finding out it won't work with fuji film. Absurd.
Up yours Lexmark
Make sure that you're using a Genuine Lexmark cartridge. If you're not using a Genuine Lexmark cartridge, that could be the reason why it's not authenticating. If you're using a genuine cartridge from Lexmark, try to update the firmware of your printer. Just go to www.lexmarklabs.com/firmware and choose the model number of your printer.
If it doesn't work, please go to this link for more info: http://bit.ly/mDKqh7
The 100/100XL cartridges are not licensed to be refilled. You can, however, refill the 100A or 100XLA cartridges available on the Lexmark website at http://www.lexmark.com. You should be aware that a refilled cartridge will not be able to report its ink level, and you might not get the print quality you expect from ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark to pass through microscopic nozzles at extremely high temperatures.
For the most optimal output experience with your AIO, Lexmark
recommends that customers update their firmware. The firmware helps ensure that
customers receive the highest yields of ink available from the cartridges,
which offers the greatest value and means fewer necessary cartridge
replacements.
If you choose to upgrade firmware, note that unauthorized use of
third-party 'cloned' cartridges will no longer be possible.
When purchasing ink cartridges, Lexmark customers have two
options:
Regular ink cartridges without license terms (100A/100XLA) that
you may a) return to Lexmark free of charge (for recycling by Lexmark), b)
refill, recycle or remanufacture themselves, or c) provide to third parties for
refilling, recycling, or remanufacturing. Any Regular ink cartridge
can be refilled by a customer or a third party and will continue to work in
their Lexmark printer.
Return Program ink cartridges that provide customers with an up-front discount in exchange for their agreement to use the ink cartridge once and return it only to Lexmark for remanufacturing and recycling.

Its the firmware that Lexmark sent out thats caused the problem. This latest update has stopped third party ink cartridges being used. Who do they think they are? They are being investigated now by the office of fair trading. New generation II third party cartridges are now already available that get around the firmware update. LOL I won't be doing anymore firmware updates from now on. UP YOURS LEXMARK!!
Stinkyink.com have great deals and also work after the firmware update:-)
