It can be blown fuse, bad cas, shorted transistors, etc. There are more than one version of this monitor, see pictures here:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/DELL/

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The monitor went dark, seems to have no power.

Totally darken the room your computer is in, and see if you can see a very-dim image on your computer.
If so, it could be the "inverter" part inside the LCD that has failed (about a $20 part, but will take a technician about $50 to $75 to disassemble/replace/reassemble/test).

Try connecting the monitor to a different computer, to see if the monitor is OK.

Monitor keeps turning off but power says it's still on

You are OK with the power cord, more likely to be failure in the power supply/Inverter board, look for bad fuse and shorterd transistors, see Dell pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Transistors should be checked out off circuits.

Dell monitor

This is most likely the power inverter board in the monitor - this is common in many monitors. If it started taking longer and longer to display an image, and the power light is blinking on-and-off, that's most likely the problem. You can confirm that it's actually the monitor and not your computer or the cable by plugging in another monitor if you have one to try. If it's under warranty, send it back, if not, there are inverter boards for many common models of LCD monitors that are replaceable. The board can run anywhere from $50 on up. Depending on how old your monitor is, and how much you've invested into it, you may find it better to just replace it with a gently used one from ebay.

Dell LCD - Power problem

To my knowledge, there is no easy fix. If the LCD is not powering on and your AC adapter indicates there is power, then it is in the circuitry of the LCD assy and your best bet is a TV repairman.

Odds are, that you can buy a replacement cheaper that the cost to repair that one (1800FP is an 18" LCD by the way) You can buy a 19" Wide aspect Dell LCD at Walmart for $199
