It sounds a lot like bad or defective batteries.
If the discharge curve is too rapid, you get no warning from the camera.

Have you tried taking pictures or zooming when the screen is blank?

If you can't do that, you most likely have battery problems.

I did lose the LCD on a related camera and once checking the replacement part cost - I retired it and bought another.
The price was $90 US and there is no assurance that the panel itself is the problem.

1. My camera goes off after taking a photo.

do you have strong enough batteries in it? I used to try the cheap ones in mine but they wouldn't work any better than that, I started buying the energizer rechargeables.

Blank Screen and faulty shutter blades

I found out the hard way that you should never use alkaline batteries in a Digital Camera. I thought my camera had a fundamental flaw (power kept going off whenever I tried to take a photo or record a video and the shutter blades half closed) even though it was only 2 months old. I nearly wrote it off but all along the problem was that I was using alkaline batteries, which incidentally were enclosed with the camera in the box!! Once I switched to NiMH (Nickel) batteries the camera worked fine and the fault completely vanished! These NiMH batteries are avaiable in most electrical shops i.e currys/comet in the UK. They must be charged before use. They are more expensive than alkaline batteries (£8-£9 for 4) but as they are rechargable they last a long time.

Black screen when camara is in photo mode

anyone else had this? or know what to do. whatever best you can do is to take the camera to a good repairer as you can't fix the problem by yourself. there may be two possible reasons for the problem. 1) bad image sensor i.e. damaged CCD or 2)shutter blade are not working. the shutter blades may be jammed due to friction are no signal.
