Many thanks, is this a difficult item to replace, is it part of the main control panel behind the selector dial?

Hi, I have swapped out the pressure switch from another almost new machine I had in the garage and it is still not filling with water after initial selection of program. The pump activates to ensure the drum is empty and then nothing. Any ideas?

Hi Daniel, there is no blockage in the hose. I can hear the solenoid clicking at the back of the control unit but nothing else is happening. Perhaps the ECU has an issue?

  • dave82452 May 24, 2011

Hi, the other machine I have in the garage has a 599/03 ECU and this one is a 599/04. Would it be worth swappping them out to see if it makes anty difference?

  • dave82452 May 25, 2011

Daniel, thanks for all your help. I have rep[laced the ecu and it still behaves the same, it starts as if it is going to fill with water with a slight surge from the water valve then nothing. I will p[robably have to call out an engineer.

Daniel, I regress. I decided to do a final check on the physical and electrical connections on the bottom end of the pressure hose. The middle connector was not properly seated into the clip. Must have been this way from factory. I have repalced the original ecu and all is well. All I need to do is re-build the machine in the garage. ;-o

Hi

As the water inlet valve is already replaced and everything else works fine the issue seems to be with the pressure switch located inside the control panel that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

You are right...it is part of the control panel however, you can buy it separately

Did you check the hose connected to the pressure switch? You need to check the pressure hose connected to pressure switch for blockage or water in it. Hope this helps...

F/H:
Condition

No water detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip not detected.

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

Or

If the control has turned the water valves on and after 8 minutes the flow meter has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off and the error code will flash.

Check/Repair:

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

If there is no water in the unit:

1. Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way.

2. Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves

3. Verify inlet valve operation

If there is water in the unit:

1. Verify Drain pump operation
2. Pressure Switch Hose is in good condition and properly connected to Tub and Pressure switch
Verify there is not a siphon problem
Verify wire harness connections to:Inlet Valves, Pressure Switch, Drain Pump, Flow Meter, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
Check all hoses for possible leaks
Verify pressure switch operation
Verify flow meter operation
Verify CCU operation

If this is intermittent, it would be very hard to determine the cause.
I myself have rarely run into this issue, and when I did, it was mainly caused by low water pressure into the water from the customers water supply, or clogged inlet water valve screens.

Make sure you don't have any duct tape or something around your drain pipe, it needs that air gap to prevent siphoning.

Why can't i do a cold wash on this bloody machine?

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

If the water flows though the inlet then the flow pressure should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. Once the water comes into the system the WATER LEVEL SENSOR - normally a pressure switch- must activate at the preset/chosen level to give the signal to the program controller to switch on the motor. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor for rinse and wash.

Check this link to replace the inlet valve:

Check the flow on the inlet. reverse if the hot line is used, clean both the filters, change the program selection to another cycle.

Check this link to replace the inlet valve:

http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1408/how-to-replace-the-inlet-valve-on-a-washer-dr.html

Finally after the wash the drain valve will be activated, the water is allowed to come in to rinse and then finally the dry spin with the drain valve/pump activated so as to drain off all the water from the clothes during the spin.

Make sure that a fault in any of the cycle will relate to the specified action, so check the command from the program module and then the executing device be it the valve or motor or pump.

Whirlpool washer AWM 5145/5 water wont drain/stops on B

I had same problem twice, the first time there was a sock in the filter at the front adjoining the pump, the second time a sock had got in the pipe under the drum which is more awkward to get to but is possible if you have the tools to remove the back plate and are ok at diy, there is a spring tension clip on the pipe which comes off quite easily with a pair of pliers.
