Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P93 Digital Camera

Cannot power on to take photos

My Sony Cybershot DSC-P93 is 3 years old and until recently I have had little to no trouble with the camera. LIke the others are reporting, I am only able to power the camera on successfully in review picture mode. I have tried everything from switching the batteries to cleaning with pressurized air to no avail. Please help because I know Sony would be of little to no assistance outside of charging full price for repairs.

I have the same problem, tried all the usual things ( changing batteries etc. ) Even found the instruction book tried their suggestions Like turning off for a minute and removing the batteries. No good. Trouble shooting keeps pointing to installing new batteries but I think it is more than that and look forward to some one finding an answer other than putting it in the rubish bin.

My Cybershot DSC-P93, used to just power on in Setup mode. In any other mode, it just started and went dead immediately. I tried to do the usual including Reset but to now avail. Infact after doing the Reset,it just doesnt power on now. :( Its about 4 years old and not sure if this problem has been resolved by someone.. Any help is highly appreciated...

I camera also started giving the same problem a week ago after using it without any trouble for 4 years. it only works on the picture review mode. when I change it to a any camera mode or switch on in a camera mode the power goes off within while the lens is coming out.

I found that one has to use their batteries of at least 2100mAh and NI-MH. I recharged my batteries removed the new ordinary alkaline batteries I had put in and BINGO IT WORKED. Just to prove the point I put in another set of Alkaline batteries No good. It must be that NI-MH Batteries rated at 2100mAH have more power (or one can draw more currentat start up) a battery guru could maybe veryify my conclusions. Anyhow try NI-MH batteries and see how you go. Best of luck fredlich

Hi

It is probably the capacitor[s] in the power supply. This is a SONY repair. Better to but a newer model.

Horizontal lines in the photo, followed by purple hazing and finally black...the CMOS sensor is defective (recalled many years ago) and finally gave out. Your little camera is done, sorry.

SONY CYBERSHOT DSC - H3 DIGITAL CAMERA FLASH PROBLEM

Hi Jim,
Have you tried resetting all settings on the camera? On a Sony camera, it is called "initialize". The initialize setting is found by going to the menu, and tabbing down until you find an option called either "reset settings" or "initialize settings" and then confirm it.
Many times that will fix the issue, in case something has either been enabled/disabled on accident, or the software is sticking (which happens from time to time)

Sony Cybershot DSC-S500 bad photo resolution problem

Electronic shutter in lens mechanism got bad and you need to replace complete lens assembly of DSC-S500 camera.
Of course new lens assembly would cost more then camera worth so best option is to buy new camera.
