Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

Our dishwasher seems to have stopped working over night. The power button comes on and the unit beeps to acknowledge start, but then there is only a very light hum & the unit does not start. No water comes through the unit and it just hangs at the light hum. We have not turned off any water but just checking if there is a simple solution? Adam Hdw100sst

Suspect pump.

on start the pump will activate to remove condense water from drying the last load.
if the pump does not start then the next step of adding water to start wash cycle will not happen.

ensure pump is not blocked or obstructed. (see user manual)

if the pump is free but still not working may need replacement

I hope this was useful

Most dishwashers go through a pumping cycle to evacuate any water remaining from its previous run, before opening the water valve to let in fresh water.

The pump sits just below a screen on the bottom of the inside of the dishwasher.Generally, this pump is located in the far back of the dishwasher. You may need to remove the lower sliding rack to gain access to this part of the dishwasher.

Check to see if something is stuck into or below the screen, which may be stopping the pump from turning. This condition would cause the hum you describe. Use a flashlight to look first.

Be careful as you run your hand over the screen or over the pump impeller to feel for debris, because quite often the problem is that a glass has broken inside the dishwasher and a broken shard of glass is lodged in the screen, poking down into the pump. The first time I encountered this condition, I cut myself on these lodged shards of clear glass because they are nearly invisible in the poor lighting conditions which exist inside the dishwasher. It could also be a straw, bottle cap, or some other type of debris. If the screen is missing, a fork or spoon could be stuck in the pump impeller.

The light hum you hear could be the timer motor inside the door, behind the control knob. It is possible that a gear or electrical contact has broken, corroded, or stripped itself inside of the timer mechanism. While sometimes timers can be rebuilt, it is almost never cost effective. Best to buy a new timer. To tell if the timer is the problem, slowly turning the knob to determine if the pump goes on or off, the water runs in or stops, and whether the soap dispenser activates or opens as you turn the knob all the way around until it passes the drying cycle and goes to off again.

To determine whether the hum is the timer motor or the pump, put your ear to the door near the timer knob. If the pump motor is humming, then you should hear it more distinctly when removing the kick panel below the door on the outside front of the machine. The pump will sound like the hum comes from underneath the dishwasher.

Beeping won't stop at end of cycle

Our Bosch does the same thing, we just open the door shut of the power and close the door again so the heat can sanitize the dishes. I don't recall if there is an alert off button though.

I can't get the control panel to reset. The wash cycle light comes on but it just beeps and the dishwasher won't start. I press the start button and it stops beeping for a minute but it still...

II might need the actual model number. However, you can go to page 9 on this manual and check if the flashing options can fix the problem. I am assuming you have already tried to turn the power off and back on.

The ohter thing to try is the reset sequence. Within 6-7 secs press High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry. All lights should light up, press Start button to exit.

Bosch Dishwasher will not power on

I saw my repair man do the following, which you might try...
Open the door and simultaneously press & hold down the power button with the 2 buttons used on your model to "Cancel & Drain." If the unit comes on it now is in self-diagnosis mode. Release the buttons and close the door. The unit should start to fill with water. Press the power button to exit the mode.

have you tried adjusting the feet on the front of the washer so it is tilted back slightly .This will stop the water from coming over the little lip on the front of the machine. Some dishwashers also use a little amount of water in the bottom when drying asthis helps to curculate the heat ; leave the washer to complete it's cycle and it should beep to let you know when it is finished
