I would not advise you to refill a toner cartridge becausethe toner powder is very fine and you do not want to breath in this tonerpowder. When the toner cartridge is exhausted or empty then theprinter will not be able to print further documents or the prints will be veryfaint. You may be able to print a few more pages by removing thetoner cartridge and shaking the toner cartridge in a horizontal position a fewtimes and then placing it back into the printer. This will give you an opportunity to print a few more pages and giveyou time to purchase a new toner cartridge for your printer. A cheaperalternative is to purchase a re-manufactured toner cartridge for your modelprinter. A re-manufactured printer cartridge also replaces worn partsas well as refilling with toner powder.
I suggest you Google search for a toner cartridge for your model printer to get a price comparison.

HOW TO REPLACE THE DRUM?

Laser printers usually have toner cartridges that include the drum.
You can purchase new Canon toner cartridges or recharged cartridges, these are approx. half the cost of a new one.

Grey background on copies from a Canon 6551

Yes, there maybe one thing that can also cause this problem.. You may have a bad or contaminated toner. You can have the all of the toner vacumed out of your hopper unit and removed from the developer unit and have underneath the dev. mag roller vacumed out and restart or install a New OEM toner back into the hopper and have them run a install toner funcation. That should take care of your problem. Even if you just change the developer unit you will still be using the same bad toner it all needs to be removed. I only really say a copier get contaminated more then once, was where the copier was in a very, very Cold room. The toner get water dew in them and the toner clumps. And you get grey and a modeled back ground and bad C.Q..... Good Luck

Canon6050 toner recycling

I have glanced at and passed by your question several times, and finally cannot resist the urge to answer. Canon copiers are unique in the fact that they are " monocomponent". This probably means nothing to the average person. But suffice it to say, the"waste toner" you speak of is primarily drum polish and paper dust, neither of which is very good at producing a decent copy. In fact, ANY percentage of waste toner introduced into the Canon copy process is a recipe for disaster. I primarily say this because at some point you will have to replace the development unit (or have some serious service) and probably replace the drum ($1000) if you continue. I am not a Canon employee but have worked on Canon equipment for over 20 years. I merely wish to help. I would be hard pressed to see how you can save enough money up front to cover the back end costs.
