Do you still have the installation disk that came with it. Insert the disk then while starting up your mac press and hold down D button so it will run a Diagnostic Test.
Hope this helps.

My Macbook pro turns on but then gets stuck at the Apple logo with the loading gear and never finishes loading.

See if you can start your Mac in safe mode:

Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally without holding down any keys during startup.

If you can boot in safe mode, you have something on board your computer that's interfering with startup. If you've recently installed software, system extensions or 3rd party preference panels (Adobe and Microsoft stuff is notorious), try to disable or de-install it. If you can't get booted in safe mode, you may have a hardware or memory problem that might require technical repair. Repost your progress.

Totally dead microwave

I'd first check the power outlet "under load". A hair dryer or a toaster make really good loads to test outlets.

Otherwise, at two months old, it should be under warranty and you should be able to get it fixed or replaced free.

Consult your owner's manual for the warranty and manufacturer contact info or contact the dealer you purchased it from for that info.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Have a macbook pro and it has locked up, black screen now and isn't responding to mouse or keyboard

This has also happened to my Macbook Pro - nothing would work, so i basically pressed the power button until it closed down and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. The problem ( touch wood) did not come back again yet. Good luck!

Problems starting laptop

Your first recourse is to reset the power controller. Since I don't know the exact model and vintage of your MacBook Pro, I will post the reset procedure that applies to most of them.
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the main battery.
  3. Hold the power button down for five seconds, then release.
  4. Install the main battery and connect the power adapter.
  5. Press the power button to restart the computer.
If this does not solve your issue, your machine will need professional service.

Hello. Thank you for choosing fixya! Begin by removing the battery and unplugging the computer. leave it with no power for at least two minutes. Then reinstall the battery, power up and that reset may solve your problem.

That said, I would not spend money repairing any laptop that was over three years old. What we have found is that the solder used in compliance with low lead requirements does not hold up over time. Therefore, repairing an older computer these days is not advised.

Personally, when one of my laptops starts acting badly and it is over three years old I replace it with one on sale in the 300-400 dollar range.

Regards, Joe.
