Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our LG Side by side fridge freezer model number GR-P207QE has stopped producing ice, we can still get cold water but thats all. I have checked the water inlet fed from the mains through the filter up to the bottom connection of the fridge. water supply is connected to a blue valve with 2 solonoids one for the water dispencer and the other for the ice maker. There is water up to this valve but no water getting to the ice maker. At this point I am stuck as to how do I confirm which part is required. Help! Kevin

Ice makers have a bar that urns the ice maker on and off. look in your ice maker and make sure the bar is still in the on position.

Ice maker crushes even when it is in the cube

If you pull out your ice bucket and look on the bottom you will see a long brass colored rod. Now, if you look inside your freezer section. you will see the slot the rod enters each and every time you insert your ice maker bucket. In the down position (normal) it produces crushed ice, When you switch the lever in the front for ice cubes, there is a plunger that lifts the rod and produces the combination that only allows ice cubes to come out. I would first check the plunger behind the panel and see if it is free.If it is not free it can cause the ice to be crushed...

you can adjust the control for the freezer side to a colder setting think of the freezer control as a door warmer setting door open farther colder setting door farther closed the fridge control is electric that runs the compresser can turn fridge down to creat more cooling freezer or set freezer to colder setting it is a balancing
act have actually closed freezer control to coldest setting and had items freeze in the fridge side where air from freezer first enters fridge a lower temp in freezer should help ice production

Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.
