Question about Samsung Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washing machine P1003J is not able to revolve the drum completely with a load in, although it does hold the drum part wayround in both forward and reverse stages of the wash cycle. The motor seems to be running then. The machine can still rinse-spin

    Machine bought May 2005

No, it is not making any unusual noises. yes, 6 years old. The drum CAN spin quickly, but it cannot make a full revolution under load in the detergent wash phase. It does still try to revolve in both directions as normal.

  • Angus Wood May 24, 2011

No, it is perfectly balanced. My wife still uses it with light loads, but it can't physically revolve loads closer to its rated capacity. Now, how do I get inside the machine without breaking anything?

Have you checked to make sure it is balanced? The weight of the load maybe causing the washer to be off balanced.

Hi, That spring you found it could be holding the drum in place. Open the back and see where it could have come off. When they move the machine it might have sprung out. Good luck.

Spin Cycle is very loud on front load washing machine

See here
How to fit a Bearing in a Washing Machine | Appliance Repair Help

  • If a washing machine is rumbling, and very noisy on spin, the main suspect is the drum bearings. Drum bearing failure is common on many washing machines due to water getting into them if the drum bearing seal fails. (Hotpoint and Zanussi in particular in my experience) To check for drum bearing failure you can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand. If the drum rumbles when spun then the bearings may have gone. There should be a constant rumble all the time the drum is revolving.
  • Another drum bearing failure symptom is excessive up and down play in the drum which can be checked for by lifting the drum up and down from the drum lip behind the door seal. A further symptom of drum bearing failure can be a brown rust patch underneath the washing machine and down the back of the outer drum, underneath the drum pulley (where the belt goes) although this patch is not always present. There are usually two small holes at the back of the drum bearings where water that has got past the drum bearing seal trickles out, and it's usually stained with grease and rust if water has got into the bearings.
  • Loud noises when turning the drum by hand can also be caused if the drum itself splits, or the spider at the back of the drum has come away from the drum, is corroded or even broken. This would normally be a loud noise on each revolution of the drum whereas the noise when drum bearings have gone is constant all the time the drum is turning. Lifting the drum checking for excessive play can often reveal a broken or loose drum spider which sometimes only occurs at certain points round the drum (the spider has three arms and is bolted to the drum at three points)

I keep finding holes in my t-shirts and other jersey clothing, i lost a bra wire in the washing machine a while ago is there any way to get to the outside of the drum? i think if i can get the wire out it...

It is very difficult to get the outside of the drum. The revolving drum is put inside a watertight drum. This drum supported with shock absorbers, front door opening with gasket. To balance the movements heavy counter weights are attached to it. To get outside of the revolving drum, it is necessary to open the front opening, remove the gasket. Hence it is difficult. To do all this two people are necessary. The best way could be find out the one end of the wire, if you can & pull it firmly by using a nose plier.

The washer shakes violently and crawls forward - so far forward as to unplug itself. Help !

Sounds like a broken damper.

The drum assembly inside a front loader is noramlly supported by two or more big springs on the top, and two damper units underneath. If either or both of the damper units fail, the machine will still work but when spinning, the drum assembly will be able to move excessively causing serious vibartion - as you describe, quite often the whole machine leaps about !
If your comfortable working on washing machines, and can get hold of spares for your machine, then it isnt too bad a job. Otherwise, call an engineer !

You may have a broken inner tub spider. Check for play between the inner drum and the outer tub by moving the inner drum up and down.
If there is excessive play, the spider is broken causing an unbalanced load and therefore no high speed spin can be achieved.

In this case the inner drum would need to be replaced, which means taking the machine almost completely apart. A good tech can do it in about 1.5 hours.

Indesit Washing Machine not proceedding with the cycle programme after filling with water.

Cant understand how the machine will revolve on the 'spin cycle' & yet you can hear the motor on the 'wash cycle' but yet it doesnt revolve!!
Nomally if the water fills, & the tub revolves without the programmer advancing, its because the heater is not working. ie faulty thermostat, heat element, or maybe a wire burned off in the 'heater circuit'. Check if you have 240 volts at both ends of the heat element, with a meter or 240 volt bulb
                             !! BE CAREFUL OF 240VOLTS!!
