WHAT DOES "CHECK OP" MEAN? IT IS ON THE FACE OF MY

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this. Thank you for choosing FixYa to assist you with this question. You're receiving a message on your radio screen that says "Check Operation" and want to know how to clear it out. Whenever you see that "Check Operation" message on your radio, that means your radio has not received any activity (warnings or messages) for a number of days or weeks. This is something the radio does automatically. The message will clear off your screen when an alert has been announced or a Required Weekly Test (RWT) or Required Monthly Test (RMT) has been performed. I have a Midland WR-100 Weather Radio and it does the same thing. I get a Required Monthly Test on the last Wednesday of each month. After the test is completed, the message goes away. The National Weather Service conducts these test on Wednesdays starting at 10 a.m. Check your radio on Wednesday to see if you still see this message. The message should be gone around 6:00 PM or later. I hope this answers your question and thank you for choosing FixYa to answer your question. We hope you get the best user experience out this radio. Stay safe this Severe Weather Season, keep updated with your NOAA Weather Radio and have a good day, evening or night; whatever time of day you are reading this. Need instructions to reset my Midland weather alert radio. Time and channel for Amarilli, TX.

On the Midland Weather Radio WR-100 web page of this website, scroll down until you get to the "Manual" heading. There is a link there (WR-100 Weather/RDS Radio Manual); click it and your instructions manual will come up in a .pdf format. To get the frequency channel for Amarillo, go to this website- http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/CntyCov/nwrTX.htm. I do not know what county you live, so you will have to look at every county listing that has your city name in its group. When you find the information you need, insert it into your radio.

I have an old Radio Shack Weather Radio that is at least 10 years old and I need to know how to program the unit for the fips codes

You can get the manual for your radio at Radioshack.com. Enter your model number in the search field at the top of the home page at that site. The fips codes for your area can be found at radioreference.com. They may even be included in your manual. I know they are listed in the manual for my pro 164 scanner.

My Midland Weather Radio is alerting on central Florida Counties when I live on the nature coast (Citrus County). Do I have to prgram in my ZIP for it to know where I reside?

You have to program what is called a "SAME" code specific to your county. These weather radio SAME codes are available from the National Weather Service website. Look up your state, then your county - it will give you the 6 digit code for your country, AND what frequency if closest to you as well. You will want to delete the unused counties, which is the whole idea behind these radios - program ONLY the one or two counties CLOSEST to you. There is also a phone number for these codes. You can also email you local NWS office on their website for assistance. The 6 digit code made up of a 3 digit number for your state and the 3 digit number for your county, making it specific to your location. Let me know if you need more info. Regards.
