    Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply but I checked all you sugested before I tried Fixya. The fuel pump was correctly diagnosed a couple of weeks ago.Now this problem has cropped up.Fuel injector fuse F10 in engine bay fuse box is good so is fuel pump relay.I contiuity checked purple/white wire all way from back of fuse box to fuel pump.Fuel pump only works if you hot wire (You can hear it hum)(it but still cranks but no start(Can,t get to fuel injectors to check with a noid light--inaccesible).Fault is perminent now.Installed a known good crank sensor last night, what a lovely job that is!Engine has always had spark. Also someone told me the windshield seal leaks and water gets into fuse box under dash panel, drivers side--Found no water ingress (Alarm problems?)

Only thing I noticed was hazard lights came on all by them selves while working on vehicle.Ignition key and ignition is worn out, have to jigle with key a bit to turn on & off.Remote part of key does not seem to work but alarm does set when using key from door lock.

Other people think vehicle is in security mode and needs a new key & coding to car.Can this inhibit purple, white fuel pump wire being inhibited?

    Thanks

    Rick

  • What makes you so sure the fuel pump is not getting any power? Did you pull the fuel pump connector and test the leads for power? You say you put in a new pump and a new relay?
  • Test the connector for power to make sure that relay is working right.
  • When you turn the key to the on position do you hear a click and then the fuel pump hum for a couple of seconds? That's another way to test the fuel pump.
  • How about the Crank Shaft Sensor? If this has not been replaced yet an '00' truck Crank Shaft Sensor can go out anytime. In fact may times people replace the fuel pump thinking it will fix things in your situation when it is the Crank Sensor.
  • There is also a fuse in the under the hood fuse panel that is for the fuel injectors. Under the lid of this fuse panel you will have the exact placement of each fuse. Make sure the injectors are functioning.

Regards, Tony

    • Absolutely it can. Your key is what they call Halo operated. When you turn the ignition it sends a signal to the ECM that it time to make the vehicle run. If you just had any old key cut without that little black bit on the end of it the vehicle would be completely non responsive. The fact that the fuel pump is only working when hot wired indicates that the pump is not getting that signal. Them keys go bad over time, the Halo sensors that is and the batteries do as well. The dealer is the only one that will be able to do this for you. They are gonna charge you $50-$70usd and the only way around the dealer is if you have two programmed keys and then you can program a third at home. I would take that key to the dealer and have it tested. If that key is bad this could end the problem for you.

    Regards,

    Tony

    • $185? That is just outrageous! Are you saying you have 2 programmed keys already? Or two keys from the factory already that are not programmed?

2000 discovery 2 land rover for "4 0l" runs for a half hour the wont start seams like it is starved of fuel whats wrong with it

Check the catalytic converters. Pull the O2 sensor between the engine an cat. If it runs. Replace the catalytic converter/s. Fuel filters can clog up, but they give signs as struggling to keep up at higher speeds. Has pressure, just no volume. The will go forever, say at 55 MPH, but try doing 60 MPH and the engine cuts out or stalls a bit.

99 land rover discovery intermittant problem runs rough then runs fine

Having a similar problem with my Disco. Talked to a couple guys I know who done a lot of work on them and you might check the O2 sensors and/or the spark plugs. My Disco kinda pulses during acceleration especially when you first crank up. When it warms up is smooths out. If that is what you mean by running rough. If your more chugging like the car just doesn't got it, it more likely a fuel flow issue.
Last thing cause it would be the most expensive. Your computer could be crapping out. The Disco doesn't have a mechanical distibutor. It is all done by computer and that could going.
Hope this gets you started.

1998 land rover discovery. Fuel pump recently replaced, but now pump does not shut off after 5 sec when it should when engine is started. any suggestions?

The fuel pump must run constantly while the engine is running. There is a return for excess fuel back to the tank.
