Your radio shouldn't be keying on it's own no matter where your SWR's are at. I would start simple by checking your mic plug, then inside the mic for cold solder joints, or shorts. Do this after you borrow a compatible mic and try the key-up. Just don't key very long before you get your standing wave ratio in check. I'm talking like 1 second.

Measure out your coax in 3ft intervals. Like if you need 7ft use a 9ft length of coax. Also make sure your mirrors are grounded use a external swr meter as well, the internal swr on the galaxy could be off. .

Self adjusting SWR does not work on 959 Galaxy

the swr on the radio is not what you are thinking it is. You have to set the SWR to anything below a 2.0 and the meter will let you know when and if your swr gets to high.

Just purchased a new galaxy dx959. Coax and k40 10k watt antenna. Installed it in my peterbilt 379. I have a lot of background noise. I tried unhooking the coax from back of radio and the noise goes...

You probably have the 959 that has a MOSFET final. It is not recommended that you try to get more power/mod by just turning pots. This can shorten the life of the MOSFET drastically. I normally set the power output to 7 watts and the mod to 100%. This give around 30 watts peak on AM and around 25-30 watts sideband. You need proper test equipment to align the radio.

As far as background noise, this type of radio does have more that others. Make sure the Noise blanker and ANL are turned on. If you are getting noise from equipment in the vehicle, you should take your truck to a good CB shop. They can find out what is causing the noise and fix it.

Can't talk about 2 miles ,swr is good

If your talking at least 2 then it sounds like it is the antenna. Any antenna should talk 10-12 miles on a good day, no matter what radio you're using. So I'd get a second look at that system.

I purchased a new 959 and would like to know what the best anteana and coaxe cable for this radio is. I will be using it in my 2007 volvo tractor, I'm a line driver in need of the best use I can get from...

coax---18 ft is recommened, all i sell is double sheilded, but as long as its good coax it should work fine...antenna thats a hard one because you have to match the to your tractor..meaning you have to get it tall enough to get to the top of your tractor...make sure you have a good ground..if you're mounting the mount on top of paint either use self tappin screws or scratch off the paint under the mount. hope this was helpful some things are easier to explain over the phone...if you need anymore help just let me know.

I have a galaxy dx 959 it keys up has no soundor receive

Try a different mic, they CAN cause no sound (receive), and no talking. If that isn't the issue, I'd go to my coax cable, even though they don't look broken doesn't mean that they aren't. I've seen quite a few brand new ones that are bad right out of the box. If all of that checks out I'd grab an SWR/power meter and do a check to see if the radio was registering on the inline meter. I'd say use the one on the radio, but I'd like to see it on the inline so you can really tell whats going on with the radio. I think I'd also get a spare radio, or a friends, and put it in my vehicle and see if it gets out. That would be the best way to check your coax and antenna setup. Aside from that, which is just simple cb logic, I'd say you may possibly have to bring the radio to a tech and have them check it out. I have a DX-959 and a DX-99V and I gotta say, knock on wood, no issues with either one. I really hoped that helped and let me know how things turn out. Its always good to hear from people after they figure out what was wrong, that way we all learn...
