It sounds like a problem with the hinge springs, rather than the lid. One will usually break before you realize it has. Then the second one goes, before you realize it. And it's usually when you have the Egg heated to a high temperature. You should also check the steel band around the egg, that is part of the hinge system to make sure it has not been overtightened or is to loose.

The folks at Big Green Egg take this sort of thing seriously and are devoted to their customers. You should also contact them about this issue.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

How are you supposed to heat up the green egg

There are you tube videos. I temporarily take daisy vent cap off top of egg, open bottom vent door wide open, light lump coal 2-3 spots with a loof lighter (from ace hardware) and then close lid. I have one section of galvanized dryer vent from Lowes that I stick on top which accelerates preheating of egg. Once the temp gets to 500, I remove the section of vent by grabbing it with a glove or hotpad. Wait a minute or two for smoke to die down. Place daisy back on top and close bottom vent door down to 1/2" and close daisy 1/2 on top and this should drop temp to 175-250. Use fine adjustments 1/6-1/8" until desired temp is reached. Your food can go on at any time after removing dryer vent. Just burp lid by slightly lifting to allow any heat burst to escape. I also have a gas conversion that works awesome. I just add a small smoke ox over burner that provides enough smoke on front end of cooking process. Advice- keep the butts and ribs on for 6 hours.

Will not get hotter than 250F

Temperatures on the Big Green Egg are controlled by opening or partially closing, the dampers on the bottom side of the grill and the top of the grill lid. The more open, the more air gets to the coals and heats the up. Partially closing the dampers lowers the temp.

Keep in mind, the grill thermometer may be faulty. Try setting an oven thermometer (like the kind used in a regular kitchen oven, that sits on the oven rack) on top if the grill grates, when you're preheating the grill with the lid closed.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!

Lid is stuck, can't open it.

Have you checked the lift assist hinge springs on the back of the grill. If they are broken or have come loose, it's impossible for one person to lift the lid. Also, if the lid gasket is severely worn, this could cause the lid to stick.

If none of the above is the culprit, contact Big Green Egg by email or phone
Customer-Support@BigGreenEgg.com or call (800) 793-2292.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

If it refills change repair man problem is either lid switch could be checked by lifting lid slowly and listen for two clicks if there is probably bad timer

I have been experiencing the same problem in the same model upon checking the fault codes I've found the temp sensor, crank, and cam sensor error codes.
I've been aware of the temp sensor for sometime the other two error codes are new and go with the problem getting worse - about to replace the temp, the local agent said he's aware of this and often this is the issue with the fuel mixture becoming incorrect due to the spike in the temp sensor after a run.

I'll fix this first and see what error codes remain, and how the problem is affected.

I dropped my green egg, it now has a huge crack on the side and the bottom broke in three places. how can I fix this?

I hate to give you bad news but repair is near hopeless, I would try a heavy duty epoxy JB weld or JB industro weld. notch out all cracked areas then fill notch and crack with epoxy. Allow to dry fully. JB weld is safe in high temp of engine compartments. Good Luck

Big green egg does not heat above 600

I'm not sure why you would want your BGE to go above 600 but here goes. Are you using a full load of hardwood lump charcoal (to the top of the fire ring...lump because it burns hotter)? Do you have the draft door and the daisy wheel wide open (may even want to remove the daisy wheel)?

Can't regular temp.

Get yourself a reliable temperature probe if you don't have one already. The one that comes with the BGE is good but swings up and down alot, don't trust it. I recommend the Maverick RediChek. Get a fire going then install the thermo directly on your grill (as per manufacturer instructions). Be very careful of flareups as it will destroy the thermo wires. When the smoker temp hits around 250 close the draft door halfway. Then close the daisy wheel so that only the 5 oval slots are open. Watch the temp for 10 minutes to see what it's doing. If it is still going up, begin adjusting the draft door only by closing about an inch every 10 minutes until you see the temp going down to where you want it. Then adjust the daisy wheel ever so slightly until you reach the desired temp. It can be a little tricky since every day is different when it comes to humidity, outside temperature, weather conditions...etc. I can keep just about any temp I want with my LBGE once I have it dialed in. Have fun.
