Not looking for a switch. Need the actual latch mechanism, that locks the door closed during operation.Same for instructions.

  • rhume912 May 23, 2011

Hello, I need to replace the lid latch mechanism not the switch. The video link sent previously did not even resemble my washer machine. I need content specifically for my model Maytag MVWB750WQO

  • rhume912 May 23, 2011

I am also looking to receive detailed instructions for accessing and replacing this part, written or otherwise, specific to my model line Maytag MVWB750W Top Load Washer. Is this something you can provide? Thanks

  • rhume912 May 23, 2011

Hi Rick I hate to sound simple but I need to know how to open this washer machine so that I can then access the part we have been talking about. It appears the mechanism is still trying to function but the actual bolt or piece of plastic what ever it is that would have come out and across to lock the door down is missing. Thanks for all your advice. Russ

Thank you Kel1guy2002 I got your fix on the forth try and it finally answered both my questions and told me exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Washer is up and running! Many thanks for the manual, and your advice, you nailed it. Take care.

Just glad to have been able to help you. The manual is so rare as is the model that you have, that most people can not find it on-line. It had been a while since I have had to access that manual but because it was so rare and hard to find it made me remember how difficult a time I had when I needed it to service a unit. Good luck and hope it goes well.

Have you tried jumping the switch with a jumper wire to see if it is actually the lid switch in the unit take a wire and stip off both ends and then connect from points 1 -3 on the connector this causes the switch itself to be bypassed and if it is the switch would make the machine start to function part number 29 in this diagram would be the latch that you are interested in replacing click here for the schematic http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fW0907091-00001.png if you have any further questions message me back I await your reply Thanks Rick

12001908 Maytag Lid Switch Kit I believe I need to replace the lid latch. need - spacer.gif Part Number 12001908 Avaliable at www.dryerpartsonline.com
you can buy these on line but if you have a parts place near you I would recommend getting it from them to avoid confusion and possibly getting the wrong part.
Here is a link to several videos that explain how to check and how to replace the switch. These are more helpful than instructions.
www.do-it-yourself-washing-machine-and-dryer-repair-help.com/Maytag-washer-lid-switch.html
Here are some instructions for you in case there is an issue with the videos.
First of all, unplug your washer. You will need to remove the console in order to get to the lid switch. The washer may have release tabs under the console at each front corner. Simply slide a putty knife straight in from the front at each corner and push in while lifting up. You should feel the release tabs push in and the console will pop up. If not equipped with this type of console, you may have a console that has removable end caps. They can be removed by gently prying up on the top of them from the rear on each side. You may have to use a small screwdriver for this. The caps should pop right off. Once removed, you will need to loosen a screw under each cap. Once you have the console loosened, carefully lift it up and lay it back over the rear panel of the washer in its resting position. Be careful not to damage the small plastic hinges that hold it in place. Now you will need to perform the following steps:

1. Under the console you will find the lid switch connector. Unplug the switch from the connector.

2. There will be two brass colored clips. You will need to remove these to remove the machine casing. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver away from you while holding into the groove and the clip will release.

3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Now pull the case from the frame by lifting from the back first.

You do not have to remove it all the way from the frame, just enough to gain access to the switch. All there is to the switch is a couple of screws holding it in and a ground wire. It's a pretty easy repair job. Some models will have the switch located on the right-hand side of the lid rim opening, while other models will have the switch located on the left-hand side near the lid hinge.

Once you've completed your switch installation, make sure you get the case back on the frame correctly by following these steps:

1. While looking down through the lid opening, place the front lip of the machine case UNDER the washer frame and start leaning it back onto the frame. There are four small cleats that must fit into four slots on the case or the washer will vibrate. Make sure the frame is seated properly, lean forward from the front of the washer, grasp both sides of the rear panel and pull towards the case. The rear panel should be seated and flush with the casing before inserting the retaining clips.

2. Insert the brass-colored clips into the slot on the washer rear panel first, and then push straight down into the opening on the top of the washer with some force. If you have the case seated correctly, the clips will snap back in.

3. Make sure you plug the connector from the console back into the lid switch receptacle BEFORE you reassemble the console. This is easy to forget

The content I gave you should work for your machine, these are all made by the same manufacture, just different brand names. The lid switch, latches are very universal. I wish you could have waited till I could reply, I waited all night to here from you and when I got back you already decided I couldn't help.

if your sure its the codes for the lid lock your getting I hope you have replaced them (do make sure to align pin on front right side ) , as ive had two of these now that have codes for the tray lock that's the tray at the back of lid area it needs to be back and latched tight to run past wash step , due to these being plastic and the water entering drum just behind them I suspect the hot water to messing with there latch mech and not allowing 4 a complete latch or something , anyways I have just replaced them to eliminate the fault in the past that's how I found out about the lid pin holes being slotted to allow for placement

A code saying 5d or Sd is coming up on my machine, what is that

The code Sd means that suds were detected. Generally this means you used regular detergent instead of the HE detergent. Less often it indicates that you used more detergent than needed for the load.

Remember to use an HE (high efficiency) detergent and to follow the directions for the amount to use in a wash cycle.

The washer should do a suds correction program to make sure that the clothes are fully rinsed. However, if the code remains and the wash cycle dial is flashing, set your washer to repeat the cycle with cold water without adding additional detergent. (Every portion of the wash cycle will be extra rinses.)

The manual for the washer is available as a PDF from Maytag's support site. http://www.kitchenaid.ca/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%20W10092824.pdf is the manual for the MVWB750WB0. Additional manuals for MVWB750W washers are listed here: http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search_results.jsp?searchTerm=MVWB750W&siteCd=MT_EN_US .

I hope this helps.

Fails to lock

Joe,

You are going to have to replace that left lid lock, Left Lid Lock. You don’t need to replace the right just unplug. Here is what is happen. The left lid lock and right lid lock “Lid is Locked” signaling are in parallel going back to the control board that is why you need to pull the plug on the right lid lock after replacing the left lid lock. The lid locks are designed to latch into the lid only a small amount with them broken off the mechanism over shoots and a signaling slide switch contact signals the control board the lid is not locked “FL” code.

The left lid lock assembly is the important one with its dual signaling function, Reed relay and lid magnet to signal the lid is closed and the “Lid Is Locked” signaling. If you don’t replace the right lid lock (I would not) tape up the plug and try to secure the wiring harness to prevent the wires from chafing. I think you have the manual and Sears Parts direct info from my previous post but just in case; The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

LID WON'T LATCH ERROR CODE FL

With that code FL “ Failed to lock” I would start looking at the lid latch mechanism. See this link from another site for lid latch problem.

If you want to try to repair or get a better understanding of how to diagnose and repair this machine take a look at the service repair manual.

http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/docs/16022808.pdf

I hope this will help with your decision to try a repair or replacement.

Good luck with your issue.
