It sounds like a graphics card issue, or quite possibly the connection from the screen is loose.
Check your cables. If you have another monitor, try it and see if the problem still happens.
If you are using onboard video, make sure you have updated drivers. If you have the option of inserting another videocard into the system, and it works fine, then your other card is the problem.
Just a few things I would suggest to try since I don't know your system specs.
