Brake lights do not owrk

First check for a blown fuse. If fuses are good, pop a brake light out and look to see if the element in the bulb is bad. If bulbs are good, use a tester of some sort to check for power in the socket. Remember that the brakes must be pressed in for this. If no power there, it could be a shorted wire or possibly the actuator under the dash by the pedal has issues. With a continuity tester and some patience, (and some electrical understanding) you will trace it down easily.

How to use a continuity tester

The most basic continuity tester (or test light or toner) are often said to provide a simple "go" or "no go" type indication (you'll see below that this is not entirely true). They usually are self powered by a battery, and have two probes to make contact with the circuit, component, wire, etc. under test.

Continuity testers are used on dead or un-powered circuits only. Likewise, they need to be tested prior to use to make sure that the battery, lamp, etc. are in good working order. Testing is done simply by touching the probes together. When connected to each other, note the intensity of the indicator - whether it is a lamp, audible alert or other indication. This is your 100% continuity reference indication.

If there is a complete path or circuit between the probes on the tester, an indication will be given. This could be brightly lit lamp, tone or buzz sound from a speaker, etc. A circuit with only fair or poor continuity may provide a dimly lit lamp or a "sick" sounding buzzer. Keep in mind that some items under test may have very poor continuity - say 20% or 30% or other unknown value that will not be sufficient to provide an indication - but will still conduct. This should alert you that a continuity tester really isn't a "no go" indicator. This is important to remember. This is where an Ohm meter shines when compared to a simple continuity tester. It will pinpoint just how much continuity there is in a circuit.

I hope this helps!

hello sir..your problem is usually happen when the circuit have shorted parts transistor or even diode...try to test by using multimeter tester range it diode testing for digital tester and for analog range it to ohms..first step is find the base of the transistor.then go for forward testing your tester should got reading after that reverse your test prove if the reverse testing got a reading it means your transistor shorted if not that is in good condition remember when you go for that testing procedure you should remove the parts to the circuit by using soldering iron and soldering pump..if my solution is helpful please don't forget to rate my answer thank you very much

Everytime I turn the receiver on, the fuse inside the unit will burn up and the receiver shuts off.

We can't figure out which is positive and which is common.

If I understand correctly, you are trying to identify wires inside a 3-way switch box?

Common wire is the wire that connects to dark-colored screw. Before taking wires off 3-way switch, it is customary to mark the common wire.

If you already have switch out and can't remember which wire went to dark colored screw I suggest you put old switch back in place and try the wires on different screws until both 3-way switches work correctly. Don't worry, circuit simply doesn't work if wires are placed on wrong screw.

You may also be trying to identify Hot and Neutral wires.

Hot is usually black, Neutral is usually white.

Here's how to test. Separate wires. Turn on power. Use ordinary tester. Tape tester leads to wood sticks so hands are away from power. Test each wire to bare ground wire. Tester lights up on Hot wire. Next, test Hot wire to each wire (except ground). Tester lights up on Neutral.

1999 ford mustang cobra alternator troubleshooting

Generally, you can check and test alternator with this procedure...

1. Clean the positive and negative battery terminals to ensure a good connection with the tester's clamps.
2. Connect the positive and negative clamps to the appropriate battery terminals. The clamps must make firm contact with the battery terminals or the test results will be inaccurate or the tester may not work at all.
3. Turn the tester on and choose the option for "full charging system test." This will test your battery, starter and alternator and provide the most accurate picture of the problem.
4. Follow the directions on the tester's screen. These instructions will include cranking the vehicle after the battery test is performed, holding the engine at a certain RPM range and turning on certain accessories.
5. Read the results displayed on the tester's screen. The tester should scroll through the results, starting with the battery, then the starter and finally the alternator. An alternator test result showing diode ripple problems indicates a bad alternator.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

    Bosch 18v driver/drill charger won't charge

THRE ARE MANY POSIBILITIES.HERE THEY ARE:
    1. Check your charger's wire. Most of the wire s are always damage in the root of plug & to the opposite side.
    2.Check the fuse.
3.Check the Rectifier Diodes. How many Diodes do your charger has?most of the chargers are only one, sometimes 4(a bridge type,& somtimes only one but 4 legs( it is also called a bridge type)
to test a 2 legs diode is just simply get a multi tester and adjust or set it in X1.,then look for the white band(mark) of diode,if you can see that mark, remember that it is the positive side.what will you do is put the red pin of the tester to the positve side of the diode,& the black pin of the tester to the negative side of the diode. If if the neddle of the diode will move, then you must reverse the pin of the tester, the red pin now will be put in the negative side of the diode and the black pin of the tester now will be put on the positive side( to the side with white mark or band).
now,if the neddle of the tester WILL MOVE after doing this reverse test: im sure that your diode is dead and needs to be replaced

Note:even most of the time you can do testing diodes attached on the board..,it is strongly recomended to detach one leg of the diode to the PCB or circuit befor doing the test.

The water during the cycle does not heat up. Has the heating element gone? Regards Zika

there is a way to test the elementy to see i f the element is indeed burnt out. You will need to get a continuity tester. First shut off all power to unit. Once you have shut off the power, remove wiring from both posts of the element. (remember to mark the wires as to replace them correctly when finished) once you have removed the wiring take your tester and touch one probe to one post the other probe to the other post. If you get a signal from the tester your element isn't burnt out and your problem lies elsewhere. Good Luck

My service engine soon light has been on for about a month...the car is running fine though...the day it came on i remember driving through a pretty deep puddle and later that night driving home it came on...

When the service engine light come's on this means there is a problem with your car, you will need to find the code output for the service engine light , you can do this by using an OBD tester, underneath the drivers side dash there is a test port where the OBD tester plugs into, this will give you the specific reason for the service engine light, if you don't have an OBD tester or can't afford one some auto parts supplier stores will do this test for you at no cost.

Because safety comes first! The most important thing to remember when working with electricity is to turn off the power. It is also important to learn how to make sure the power is off, and this can be done easily using a variety of different testers.
