What all did you do when you rebuilt the motor? i only ask because there are may ways to "rebuild" something. it sounds like your timing might be off a tooth. check this for me and get back with me so i have some things to work with.
1) timing is spot on
2) the valve clearance
3) the carb, jet sizes and air/fuel screw setting
4) the cvt tranny is working the way is should and the belt is not stretched out of spec.
5) spark plug color.
Why i think the timing is off is because of the back firing, timed ign. is key and if it is off even a tooth it will make you chase your tail. that could be causing your boog as will. and the cvt tranny if the belt is over stretched it will cause the tranny to not work right lack of top speed and pick up.
look over the things i asked about and please get back with me. i can help figure this out with you if your willing to be my hands.
Looking forward to hearing from you

the ing. box does not have anything to do with the timing it's just told when to tell the plug to spark. can you do a leak down test on it?

Start by replacing the air filter and checking the operation of the fuel pressure regulator. Have the stored codes read out of your ECU, either by an auto parts store or a local mechanic, in order to ascertain a starting point for diagnosis.

Could be a problem with a bad float that is overloading the engine with fuel. Does it take a little bit to "clear its throat" once you are on flat ground again?

Confused a little

A 4 stroke motor does NOT have Oil in the Fuel. There is NO fuel mixture. Just use regular gas. The only place you need oil is in the sump, and regular 20/30 motor oil will be fine. This only needs to be replaced when low on dipstick in crankcase.

Yes, I think I know the problem because I have the same motor and mine starts right up every time. When you cold start it, you may not be priming it doesn't have enough gas. Don't squeeze the bulb 2 or 3 times, do it about 10-12 times. Full choke and it will light right up. On a warm start, you don't need to prime it or choke it. On a semi-warm start, try half choke and no priming.

What type of petrol is needed for a yamaha outboard motor horsepower 8?

reg unleaded gas.

You haven't specified as to its year of manufacture, so if its older, as in a 2 stroke, it'll be a mix of gas and outboard oil.

If its a newer model, a 4 stroke, it'll be injected(Gas and oil seperate)

If you are totally unsure, Consult your owners manual and if you have none, then any Yamaha dealer can use the serial # off the motor to establish any specs on it for you.

Happy boating.

Oil Leak at exhaust flange

No major problem. The proper mix is 32 to 1 gas and oil. That equals 4 ounces of 2 stroke ENGINE oil to one gallon of gas. Do not use MOTOR oil in the gas. 10w40 motor oil is what goes in the gearbox. Tighten the exhaust flange.

A top ranking please ... Thanks BJS!
