SOURCE: RENAISSANCE HOSE/VAC

THE RENAISSANCE IS KNOWN FOR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE HANDLE.YOU'LL NOTICE THAT MODELS THAT CAME AFTER THAT HAD SLIDING SWITCHES. UNFORTUNATELY THE NEW HOSE DESIGN WON'T WORK ON YOUR MACHINE BECAUSE THE CIRCUIT BOARD INSIDE THE MACHINE WAS CHANGED TOO.AERUS MAY OR MAY NOT STILL MAKE THE PARTS YOU NEED. OTHER WISE LOOK ON E-BAY FOR A NEW HOSE.
ELECTROLUX FOOLISHLY REPLACED IT'S FLAGSHIP STEEL MACHINE WITH THIS DESIGN...A FEW YEARS LATER ALL THEY HAD WORTH SELLING WAS THEIR NAME, HENCE THE NEW NAME AERUS.

SOURCE: LUX RENAISSANCE WONT TURN ON. HOSE CONTROL BAG LIGHT IS ON

Could be the board in the handle but I found that a lot of the times the contacts where the handle meets the hose just need to be cleaned. It could also be a clogged hose but I'd say it's one of the other two.

SOURCE: What exactly is the name of the tool to remove the

It's not a particular tool, it's simply a type of screwdriver bit. They are called either "Torx" or T-Star and come in a range of sizes, e.g. T15, T20, T25, T30, etc.

I think the one on your vacuum is a T20, but it's hard to remember the size of every screw on every appliance. I've attached a picture below to assist you. If this isn't the right tool, please describe the shape of the recess in the head of the screw and I will post back with the correct answer.

It is running properly if you are doing what you say you are.
It should NOT run without the hose and should with it plugged in if the electronics in the hose and vac are working properly. This was the major problem with the Renaissance Model and was only manufactured for a few years.
With 30 yrs. experience dealing almost exclusively with the original Electrolux, I have a legitimate store front business and do service by mail at a reasonable cost if interested. mickeymackmark1@yahoo.com
Hope that helps! Mick

Remove handle from hose electrolux

You don't have to "remove" the handle from the hose to attach other attachments, just depress the tab at the end of the hose and pull the upper wand loose then use the "adapter" to use the dusting brush or simply snap the crevice tool in place to use. If the handle won't come loose from the upper wand, then the described "tab" needs replaced as it's locking up the parts. Hope that helps!

Electrolux Vacuum Renaissance Power head brush won't turn

if it is making a humming sound but not turning you belt is broken, if it is not check the reset switch (little res button) if that doesnt work check the connections between the cord of the powerhead and the wand, the wand and the hose, and the hose and the vacuum
give the hose itself a good look over sometimes the wires up by the grip break in the casing

Renny starts as soon as the unit is plugged in....leave the hose off and the unit will not start until the hose is connected

This is a problem that needs to be checked at an Aerus Electrolux store. They have the tech manuals to troubleshoot the specific problems with the Renny (Renaissance). There are three possible problems involving the electronics in either the hose handle or the canister.
When the problem was first noted, customers brought their vacuums in and the service managers simply replaced the hoses. That resulted in burning out the boards in either the new hose or the vacuum, increasing the cost of warranty repair/part replacement. Electrolux quickly sent out service updates letting the service personnel know to stop the practice immediately. I can't remember how long it took before we finally got the proper troubleshooting data, but yes, there were a lot of problems with many of the machines. Fortunately for the store I worked at, there weren't many.

Electrolux Canister - Renaissance model

Probably a clog, because the change bag light is nothing but an airflow sensor.

Check your hoses to ensure that there are no blockages, and also check inside the powerhead behind the brushroll.

Electrolux Renaissance Hose Replacement

Notice how the hose has a groove just around the outer edge of the gray plastic near the white plastic insert. The hose is held into the handle buy two "tongues" inserted into this groove. One of these tongues is on the end of the top plastic piece of the handle. The second is on the piece of plastic that is slid into the little hole at the base of the handle and it is visible in the picture.

To remove the first, you'll have to remove the two screws in the top of the handle that hold the top plastic piece. This can be a challenge unless you have the right tool. It's essentially a hex-star allen wrench tool that is required, I'm guessing about 1/16 inch. I had one in my tool box that fit. Remove the screws and pop the top plate off. This frees the first tongue from the groove. Now, just get a screw driver (or use your finger) to press the plastic piece inserted in the hole at the bottom of the handle. Press from the "t" side and this should slide right out. Now your hose will slide right out of the handle and you can replace the old with new. Re-insert the small plastic insert, and refasten the top plastic piece of the handle and you're good to go.

If the wires power a motor then it shouldn't actually matter as the motor is AC which has no polarity.
