Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks

Audi a6 1996 quattro died and will not turn over

A sudden failure to receive fuel, with a good fuse, would indicate the fuel pump has died. It is possible there is a bad wire, or the fuel pressure sensor has gone bad, but usually it is a failed pump. You can check the fuel filter, but usually this will cause problems at high loads/rpm before becoming completely clogged. Remember, you may have more than one. A service manual will give you good instructions on how to find and test your filters and how to replace the pump. It is important in both cases to relieve the fuel pressure, just in case. I have changed a few electric fuel pumps and if that is your problem I hope your tank is mostly empty, you have a good friend and access to a pair of jack stands and a hydraulic floor jack.

Turn the ignition "on" without cranking the engine - wait for 30 seconds.

Turn the Ignition back off for 10 seconds.

Repeat 3 times.

All air will be purged back into the fuel tank.

There will be an anti fire solinoid on the bottom of the carb bowl, the idea is to shut off the fuel in the main jet when the engine is switched off, you should hear a click as soon as the ignition is switched on, you can take it out and check that the centre pin goes in when the ignition is switched on. If it has an external vacume pump, it may not be working, these are fitted where there is no gravity feed to the carb from the tank, if the fuel hose from the tank goes to a component and then to the carb it does have a pump, pull the fuel hose off the carb and crank the engine, there should be a steady flow of fuel, if not check the vacume hose has not become detached, if ok replace the pump.

I have a 1986 Cavalcade that runs great then without warning stalls out. I think the fuel pump relay is bad. Does anyone know where this relay is located on this bike?? Thanks

Does it stall suddenly...or start sputtering as if its running out of fuel. The fuel pump stopping shouldn't kill the engine suddenly....each carb will empty and you will lose one cylinder, then two etc.
If its dying suddenly I would investigate your sidestand switch....when the bike you ever find the starter won't immediately crank?

Can get the engine to fire by spraying starting fluid into the air intake but will not continue to run. Fluel is getting to the carburetor.

Hi, it sounds like a problem with the fuel not going through the carb. This could be a plugged jet in the carb, or the float is stuck, or set wrong. Are you getting fuel in the carb bowel? If so, then it probably is the jet. This requires you to remove the bowl and clean every orifice you find. Use a good carb cleaning fluid for this. A good auto store will have this in a pressurized can.

It's possible the fuel filter is clogged up. If it has been a while since you changed the fuel filter, it may need to be changed. It is either located in the tank or between the tank and carbeurator. You may also have gotten bad gas or water in the gas. Check this also.

Isuzu trooper starts briefly then dies

check your fuel delivery from the pump to the "dry" pulsing injectors leave the crank sensor alone! open the intake and, spray either (engine start) into the engine then attempt to start; it should start and, run until the either is used up then die. most likely your fuel filters are clogged
