Question about Apple Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I dropped my MacBook from a desk last night and had (iPhone) earbuds plugged in at the time. The piece where it plugs in took the blow and distorted the plastic on the tip of the earbuds. Anyway, I think it jammed the actual port into the computer about 1mm or so. Just enough that headphones no longer properly plug in. The bigger problem for now though is that my internal speakers no longer work correctly. The volume icon on the menu bar is grayed out when headphones aren't plugged in (which only read one channel or the other anyway), but there is still a bong at startup. In System Prefs > Sound, Digital Out is the only option when headphones aren't plugged in. Can anyone help?

The only way to fix this is to replace the logicboard or take it to a specialist that can replace the headphone piece.

Headphones

Firstly, it looks like the plug showing in your video has 3 black bands on it. Is that correct? If so, that usually indicates that it would be a headset that also includes a microphone like the kind of device to use on a cell phone that has that kind of female plug on it. I would try to determine where the problem originates, the computer or the earbuds. You could do this by plugging in a pair of known working headphones in to the computer and see if they work ok. I took a pair of earbuds of my own that have the 3 black lines on the plug (and they do in fact have a microphone too) and plugged it in to my laptop and they work fine. The fact of the 3 black lines does not seem to have any effect on whether or not sound comes out of both buds. so, I would take the "broken" earbuds and try them on an mp3 player, someone else's computer or anything else like that that plays stereo music. If you only get sound from one speaker while they're plugged in to a different device then you can safely assume that the earbuds are broken. Most likely a bad wire in my opinion. It's probably time to head to the store at that point and pick up a new pair of earbuds. Thankfully, they're not very expensive these days. I hope that helps. any more questions? you can email me: davidsfreud@gmail.com

Thanks for asking your question on Fixya. ;-)
What error messages are you seeing, if any? Does Apple OS recognize it at all? Also, did you format the drive on a windows computer? How about deleting the partition and plug it back into the macbook so the macbook can set it up for you. If you plug it into the windows machine, what messages did you get from that?

The charge adapter maybe faulty.
If your cell phone is a few months old, then it would be still under warranty. Take it back to the place where you purchased it and have it repaired or replaced under warranty.

I dropped my phone last night and the screen black

Sounds like you either damaged the back light or display or hopefully just knocked the connector loose. Either way the case would need to be opened so you need to get it to a repair shop.

IPhone Black Screen, and nothing

Plug the iPhone into your MacBook, make sure the mac is plugged into a power source and open iTunes, if iTunes detects the iPhone, re-sync it from last back-up ... This should make the iPhone crash, reset and be back to normal. If not, hold down the sleep and home button, keep holding it after the apple logo appears, until it shows a USB plug into iTunes sign, the plug the iPhone into the mac and it should happen as before. Good luck cheers

Your battery is deteriorating. Send it in to apple to get it replaced-
$40- 50. when back, fully charge and discharge 5-10 times, and do NOt leave it constantly plugged in.

Shows fully charged (plug icon), but isn't taking a charge. A;ready tried reboot/restore.

Get a can of air and blow it into the 30-pin connector and headphone jack to clear the phone of dust and build-up. This should clear up the problem. I learned this from an Apple Store Genius Bar associate.
