It may be overheating or something is damaged on the main motherboard. If you have a warranty, you should use it.
Another possibility is that the power button may be stuck and the laptop may not recognize that the button has been released. This can sometimes cause that problem. Cleaning around it, or taking apart the laptop for a good thorough clean, can usually fix it. If you take apart the laptop, the warranty may be void.

MY LAPTOP AFTER 2-3HR WORK SHUTS DOWN AND WONT TURN OFF.i HAVETO PRESS THE START BUTTON TO REBOOT-PRODUCT ACER F5

Just wanted to confirm a few things..
Did you do a hard power down by holding the power button down for 5 seconds or by just briefly pressing the power button (which would put the computer to Sleep).
I've found this laptop occasionally does not properly recover from Sleeping under Win8, that's why I ask.
Either way, do a hard power down by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
Unplug the laptop and find the battery disconnect pinhole switch underneath (indicated with a picture of a battery lifted up) and using a paperclip press and hold for 30 seconds.
Try powering on again, do you atleast get the Acer logo appearing when powering on?

The z565 does not start when I press the startbutton

Welcome to Fixya

Try to power up the laptop usng the adapter only. Take out the battery then turn on the laptop using the adapter only. Double check also the light indicator infront of the laptop. Power light should be lit up when you use the power adapter. If the power light is not present then the problem could be the adapter itself or the mainboard of the laptop.

Let me know if yor have further questions.

Thank you for using Fixya!

How do i reboot my computer

Hi,

To reboot the desktop machine, kindly press the power on button for few seconds / small button(reset) below the power button to reboot the computer.

If its laptop follow the below steps

Determine what operating system it uses. Finding out what operating system your laptop uses will let you know what key combo (such as "Ctrl+Alt+Delete") can exit you from usage and trigger a reboot or shutdown.

Try and reboot using the operating system. Attempt to use the key combination that will allow you to exit from the operating system and restart the laptop. Be patient, as it may take some time if it has locked up.

Hold down the power button. If the operating system's answer to the rebooting will not work, find and hold down the power button of the laptop. This should cause the device to shut itself off. You'll have to press the power button again to power it back on, completing the reboot.

Unplug from the wall and remove the battery. If restarting via the operating system and the power button do not work, unplug the laptop from the wall outlet, and remove the battery from the laptop. This will cause it to power off immediately.

Allow time to reboot. Give the laptop time to cool down before you power it back on if you had to do this manually. A few seconds should do unless you have additional problems.

How do I reboot my acer laptop with my copy disk?

When turning your laptop on, before Windows starts booting, a splash screen appears first (usually with the logo of the manufacturer). Look on the splash screen (usually at the bottom) for a key (usually F10 or F11), assigned for System Recovery CD/DVD with the laptop. or 1.Press the start button from the start menu depending on your operating system(win 2000,xp) 2.Press Ctrl+Alt+delete combination from the keyboard. 3.If you have a power button on your laptop keyboard,it could also be useful by pressing and hold it down for few seconds N.B: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" can exit you from usage and trigger a reboot or shutdown. Try and reboot using the operating system. Attempt to use the key combination that will allow you to exit from the operating system and restart the laptop. Be patient, as it may take some time if it has locked up. Hold down the power button. You'll have to press the power button again to power it back on, completing the reboot. Unplug from the wall and remove the battery. All the Best!

Laptop doesnt boot and the monitor doesn't switch on. When we switch on the laptop the processor runs for few seconds and then shuts down and the system tries to restart itself..

Hi,

You can try the following steps:

1. Unplug the power from the laptop and remove the battery then press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds

2. Put the battery back in, turn on the laptop without plugging the power to the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue)

3. Remove the battery and press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds, after that, plug the power cord and turn on the laptop (if this didn't resolve the issue)

4. Remove the power cord and press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds, disconnect the Hard drive and turn on the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue) reconnec the hard drive

5. Remove the Optical Drive and turn on the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue) reconnect the optical drive

6. Remove the memory chip, if you have 2 memory chips installed in the 2 memory slots (remove both of them) now test each one of the memory to each slots turning on the laptop. (If this didn't resolve the issue) Put the memory chip back in

7. Reseat the CPU and try to make sure that it's installed properly. Turn on the laptop and test if it's gonna work (If this didn't resolve the issue)

8. Reseat the power cords coming from the power supply of the laptop and test the laptop. (If this didn't resolve the issue)

9. Disconnect everything and just leave the CPU installed and turn on the laptop.

10. If all else fails, there's a big possibility that the problem may be with the power supply or the motherboard of the laptop.

(Note: you may try to clean your computer if there is a large amount of dust. You may try to remove the CMOS battery)

Please get your laptop charger checked, it might be giving more output than it is supposed to. Get it checked as soon as possible to prevent any damage to the laptop itself.

My toshiba 1805-s74 will not turn on

Hi Russ,

Sometimes a laptop will appear in a ghost state, not off, or on if you sometimes shut it down, but close the lid too fast. Try pressing and holding the power button for 5-10 seconds. This should turn it off completely. Then give it a few more seconds and press the power button again to turn it back on.

Hope this helps!
