Question about Pool & Spa

Open Question

My Teledyne Laars EPG-175 pool heater has a pilot light, but will not ignite. My limit switches are closed, as is my pressure switch. Temp sensor bulb, or pilot generator? I do not get a flashing red LED on my temp control board indicating milivolts present. My pot switch is working properly also.

SOURCE: I HAve old Teledyne Laars pool heater. When I try

The aluminium has gotten old in the pilot tube and is starting to leak. You can just replace the tube but when you start disturbing the pilot it can lead to other problems. I would sugest getting a whole new pilot assembly and replaceing the whole thing. If it that old be sure to ask for propane or natural gas when you order the part.
I don't know about old books online but you can write to Laars and ask them. They are under Jandy-Laars now.

I replaced the ignition transformer in my Teledyne Laars epc325 pool heater and cleaned everything. When I switch the heater on the burners all work fine but they only cycle on for about 10 seconds then...

This is probally your ignition wire is bad and not reading flame at the pilot or your pilot is bent or something so that when the pilot lights the flame isn't hitting the sensor probe at the pilot. When looking under the heater use a mirror so if you get roll out of the flame you don't get burned. Good luck and be careful.

Pilot will light but main burner will not light

if burner lights after jumping valve you have something wrong in thermostat loop. disconnect the 2 thermostat wires on gas valve and use multimeter on continuity setting. if all wires ,connectors and components are good, you will get a tone.since you have jumped out each component in thermostat loop with no success ,i would suspect a bad wire or oxidation on a terminal .

Pilot will stay on but burners will not ignite, checked all switches seem to be working allright, still no burner ignition

Possibly a flow switch not closed, or a limit switch open. May even be the pilot generator not producing enough mili-volts to operate the gas valve. Safest way is to have it serviced by a heating contractor. You dont have to call a pool company unless you wish.

Pilot light on but heater will not start

check the high-limit switches. Under the inlet/outlet header. if either is open it will not allow you to fire up. my 150 degree switch was corroded and after jump9ng out, bam it worked.

Pilot light wont stay lit

If this is a new item then you will need to let the gas run alittle bit longer. If this is a used item then it sounds like you are going to need to replace the flame sensor. You may have to even do it on the new item. But usually for the first start you willl need to hold the pilot down for about 1 minute to really let things heat up in there then when you release all will work
