If the fan spin freely then the capacitor could be bad. Otherwise, if it spin with difficulty then it need to be cleaned and lubbed.

Replace compacitor on Carrier 5 ton 3 phase AC

Your 3 phase unit should not have a capacitor. I'm guessing it's single phase. If it's a single capacitor than the compressor should not be going to it also. To test the motor, common to start plus common to run should equal the ohms you get between start and run. For instance, 1.2 ohms+ 2.2 ohms= 3.4 ohms. Follow the wiring diagram on the inside of the door, send model number!!

My condenser fan runs and blows cool air but isnt cooling down the house. Any help.

Check the outdoor unit (condensing unit). Keep in mind, because the condenser fan is running it's not an indication that the compressor is working. On a split system, there's a dual capacitor that serves the fan and the compressor. The capacitor has three terminals.
1. common
2. fan = fan
3. Herm = compressor
This is a common problem; The outdoor fan (condenser fan) runs, but not the compressor (you have to know the sound of a running compressor or you'll mistake it for the sound of the fan) doesn't, because the compressor side of the capacitor is too weak to give it that needed phase angle that it requires to start. If you're referring to the outdoor fan spinning, but no cooling, I can bet the compressor isn't working and needs a new capacitor. Very common problem, I see it all the time. Before you change the capacitor, make sure that you cut the power to the unit, and then use an insulated tool such as a screwdriver and short the terminals together first. A capacitor holds a charge even after being de -energized.Buy the new one with the same exact rating written on it as the old one. Do not mix up the wires when replacing. Write it down or take a picture with your phone

Carrier 48NMX042 IFM wont stop, condenser fan motor and compressor wont run

Ok first thing is it sounds like a wiring problem. So first step is to make sure the thermostat is properly connected. Which... the main thing here is there needs to be 24v dc power coming from your control board (transformer) going to the thermostat..generally that is the red wire. All the thermostat does is connect that "red" wire (power) to one of the other wires to complete a circuit. So make sure you have 24 volts... (generally about .5amps) . if you have power than switch thermostat to fan only should energize the green wire only. then switch to ac and move temp low enough that the ac should turn on and that should energize the yellow wire. for sure one of those wires is incorrect now or the fan wouldn't be on OR THE THERMOSTAT IS NOT CONNECTING THEM AND IT IS BAD. Now about the compressor and fan.... those same wires run out to the compressor unit... ok the yellow for ac.. greeen does not go to compressor unit that is for fan only (vent).. red carries the same 24 volts... one difference here is that most carrier units only have the one transformer....so you run the red wire is the +pos 24 volt..and then a "common " wire is needed which is the Ground or neg... that wire on a carrier is brown usually but could be different depending installer. The orange wire goes to the pump reversing valve it is always energized when on ac mode...when heater is on in the winter it is heat pump and is not energized so just connect the orange and yellow together... tell me more specifics if this doesn't help and i'm sure I can help you... thanks Chuck

My carrier 38ckc036350 is 6 years old. Today the compressor stopped working. The fan outside comes on and every few min i hear an electrical buzz like the compressor is trying to be energized. Are there...

Hi!

It sounds like the capacitor and/or compressor are quitting. Try getting a Start Capacitor of the same uF (I think 35 uF for Commpressor and 5 uF for fan motor) as the one you have, OR get a Start Kit from any AC parts shop for about $10 and hook it up in line with the old capacitor, if you have a two terminal capacitor plug the terminals one, on each end, if you have a 3 terminal called DUAL Capacitor, each terminal is stamped with the words FAN, HERM and the letter C for common, one lead goes in the C terminal and the other one goes on the HERM.

Install it and turn unit ON. Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Neither A/C compressor or fan coming on in ouside unit.

The bulge is a telltale sign of a defective capacitor along with the tripped breaker. Replace it and cross your fingers.

P291-3554RS dual cap is the Carrier part that is called for.

Are you talking about a start capacitor or a run capacitor?
Usually a dual capacitor is a metal can type capacitor with 3 terminals.
C - which is run for compressor and fan.
Herm - is start for the compressor.
Fan - is start for fan.
A start capacitor is a black plastic capacitor
It is in series in the run wire to the potential relay, one side goes to run on the run capacitor and the other side goes to #1 on start or potential relay.

Ac unit fan does not turn unless i force it to turn. also not producing cold air

If the fan just hums and if you spin the fan and it runs, check out the capacitor, it is bad. Most condensing units have a split capacitor, for the hermedic unit and the fan. If the compressor runs the dual capacitor is bad on the fan side. Your choice buy the dual capacitor, or just buy a single capacitor for the fan part of it. Make sure the voltage rating and microfarad ratings are the same. They will be marked on the old capacitor, as will fan (for fan), and herm for compressor). THATS 220 VOLTAGE YOUR WORKING WITH, BE SURE THE POWER IS OFF!!

Condesor pump and fan

yes dual feed capacitor in the condensor sounds bad. common to one side and outlet to compressor on the other and outlet to the fan on the third set of terminals. it should test bad but look carefully at it, it may be bloated up like a dead fish and easy to observe if you look at it closely. if bloated bad, worth a try anyway, cheap part ,usually under 40 bucks for most. label wires and reoplace wire for wire exactly with exact voltage and mf ratings. usually a motor shop has em. good luck.

MODEL # CARRIER 38XD124300

sounds like you had a condenser fan replaced ok you just have verify if the fan is a reversible one there is like a plug type connector on top of fan all you have to do is swap the position of the plug ex. if black / white to white/black that changes the rotation. check against the diagram it should be for the CCW position.
