My second hand vtx d800u does not produce any menu when I want to set it up. All the wiring seems to be correct and it passes the signal through to the TV. The remote is working and the machine is responding by blinking red but Ican not get any menus. Any advice would be welcome

2006 Honda VTX 1300 R not charging


Hi, Chuck before testing any electrical component in the Charging System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Battery Test:
The battery needs to be a fully charged and load tested to ensure proper readings, connections need to be clean and tight. If you are not working with a fully charged and functional battery, all other voltage tests will be incorrect. Standing battery Voltage should be 12.5-13.2 DCV.
2. Charging System Voltage Test:
Start motorcycle, measure DC volts across the battery terminals you should have a reading of approximately 13.2-15 DC Volts.
3. Connections and wires:
Inspect the regulator stator plug, and check the battery terminals for connection corrosion. If everything seems to be in order, move on to number 4 below to determine if there's a failed component.
4. Stator Checks/Rotor Check: Each of the following tests isolates the Stator & Rotor. If AC output and resistance test fail and stator test passes then the rotor is at fault (Pull Primary covers and inspect rotor for damage).
5. AC Output Check:
Unplug the regulator plug from the stator start motorcycle and change Voltmeter to AC volts. Probe both stator wires with your meter lead. The motorcycle should be putting out approximately 18-20 ACV per 1,000 rpm. Reading will vary depending on system, check service manual specification
Generic Specs:
22 amp system produces about 19-26 VAC per 1,000 rpm
32 amp system produces about 16-20 VAC per 1,000 rpm
45 amp system produces about 19-26 VAC per 1,000 rpm
Stator Resistance Check:
Switch your multimeter to Ohm x 1 scale. Probe each stator wires with meter leads and check resistance on the meter.
Resistance should be in the range of 0.1-0.5 Ohms. Reading will vary depending on the system, check the service manual for specifications.
Generic Specs:
22 amp system produces about 0.2 to 0.4 ohms
32 amp system produces about 0.1 to 0.2 ohms
45 amp system produces about 0.1 to 0.2 ohms
Stator Ground Check:
Switch your multimeter to Ohm x 1 scale.
Probe each stator wire with your positive lead on the multimeter and the negative to ground.
There should be no continuity to ground on either wire.
If there is continuity your stator is shorted to ground and must be replaced.
5. Regulator Test:
Each of the following tests isolates the regulator only, so if any of these tests fail, the regulator is at fault.
Identifying Wires:
Battery Charge Lead- Wire going from regulator to battery positive.
AC output leads- Wires coming from the Stator to the regulator.
Ground- Wire from Regulator to ground or regulator may be grounded via the physical bolting to chassis.
Regulator Ground Test: Ensure the regulator body is grounded or grounding wire is fastened tightly to a good ground (you should verify this by checking continuity from regulator body to chassis ground).
Fwd/Reverse Bias Test/Diode Test:
This check is testing the Diode function to ensure it is regulating the AC current for the stator into DC Current.
Switch multimeter to Diode Scale.
Place your Multimeter positive lead on each AC output wire.
Place your multimeter negative lead on the battery Charge wire.
The meter should read voltage typically around .5 volts.
Next, switch your multimeter leads putting the negative lead on the AC output wires and the Positive lead on the Battery Charge Wire. The reading should be Infinite. With your meter on the same setting, place your multimeter positive lead on the regulator ground wire or to the regulator directly, and then place your meter negative lead on the AC output leads.
The meter should read voltage typically around .5 volts.
Next, switch your multimeter leads putting the negative lead on the regulator ground and the Positive lead on the AC output wires. The reading should be Infinite.
Note: Below is a table to show the readings:

Is there a bib button remote controller that will link to a Sony VTX-D800U set top box?


I can try to point you in the right direction. You will have to program these remotes for your set-top-box which may be time consuming. There is probably no guarantee your Sony STB will be compatible with the remote, so I would call MAPLIN or any other company you find and ask them.

It looses time and the radio controlled feature does not bring it back to the correct time. I put in a new battery and it still happens. It is a La Crosse Technology Radio Controlled clock Model:WT-3101


When the battery is installed the second hand will advance eight seconds (2 seconds per step x 4 steps). The clock is now searching for a signal. For the initial setting it is recommended to stand the clock in an upright position near a window. Within five minutes the clock will either receive the WWVB signal and set itself to the exact time, or it will determine that the signal is not receivable at its current location and time of day. If a signal is not receivable it will fast-forward the hands to the 4, 8, or 12 o'clock position and search for WWVB each hour until a signal is received. If the time is manually set the clock will continue to periodically search for a signal and automatically reset the hands when the signal is received.

How do i get the wiring through the bars to the heated grips.


If you remove the pass switch on the left hand switch housing you have room to fit the round rocker switch in the his housing. This makes for a very clean installation. Since in the day time I ride with high beams on the pass switch was of know use to me plus flashing your high beams at a car you intend to over take seems to produce a rather random out come. I traced out the diameter of hole I would need with a scribe and then trimmed it out with a Dremel, test fitting the switch as I went. Much safer then trying to drill a hole that large in a piece of plastic.

The empty three wire plug under the nose fairing is intended for the factory heated grips. I cut of the plug and wired into the power here. There are three wires, 12v hot, 12v signal, & Ground. The 12v hot use the fuse in the fuse box marked for the heated grips but remains hot even when the bike is off. So I wired in a 12v relay using the signal wire to switch the 12v hot with the ignition. This will prevent dead batteries if I leave the heated grips on or if a passer by feels the need to flip switches on my bike; it's happed before! You will be able to tell which is the 12v hot and 12v signal by pulling the heated grip fuse and seeing which wire remains hot.

My right turn signal blinks really fast & the same running light on the front is brighter than the left turn signal


One light is brighter because the turn signal light wire is switched with the running light wire. The wires are color coded should be an easy fix. As for the fast blink, if you have put led lights on the signals you will have to also add a diodes to correct the fast blink.

On the amp there should be High pass and a low pass setting. Put it on low pass cause if its on high pass or in between it produces normal noted like a speaker. Low pass will filter out all the high frequencies.

Forgoten pin number


I read that there is a factory reset that you can do. This will return the unit to how it was when it came out of the box.

Firstly you have to enable the diagnostic functions by quickly pressing the following sequence on the remote:

Left
Right
Yellow
Blue
Menu

Then on the Technical Information pages there will be a reset option. This clears everything - channels, favourites, PIN etc.

There will be a default PIN that comes pre-programmed in and the instructions should mention this.

Your bike should have 3 main wires in the rear even if they split to power 2 bulbs each.
1 for brake light
1 for night rear light
1 for ground.
Your trailer should have additionally 2 more for the turn signals.
