Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

ACER 1916 monitor works for a while, then periodically power-cycles itself and powers-on with the Acer logo. This happens sometimes every 10-15 minutes, sometimes I can go hours with no problem. I visually inspected the power supply and controller boards for anything obvious - cold solders, solder bridges, popped caps/transistors, etc. Also cleaned the controller board and connectors with isopropyl alcohol. No change. I made sure there is plenty of ventilation around the monitor and put the 120v on a UPS.

You need the check the voltages before and after the problem occurs, that will be the first palce to start. Worst case will be the lamp assemblies; http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Bad%20backlight%20lamp/

I have an Acer AL1916W monitor which powers up and shows the Acer logo and then cuts off. It seems to do this when on for long periods.

Please inspect the DC filter caps in the power supply, see failed ACER due to bad caps first.

I have a Acer moniter too. Seems like you have a loose VGA cable or not enough power going into the video card

Acer LCD Monitor only displays "acer" logo

You are correct, it could be a power surge that has caused it.

Try this..
Unplug the monitor from the wall.
Remove all the video connections at the monitor end.
Wait 10 minutes then plug the monitor back into the wall (do not connect the video leads)

Turn it on and see if it goes past the ACER logo now. If so, replace the video cables and try the computer.
If not, then one of these will apply and a tech will be required..
  1. The internal bios has been corrupted.
  2. The power supply inside the monitor may have issues preventing the video board from starting correctly. This could be as simple as a few failing capacitors.
Number 2 is the most likely cause with an Acer monitor though. Any local tech will be able to correct it fairly cheaply, but phone around for quotes..they can vary a lot.

Acer AL1716 Power problem?

i have experienced the same problem (power cycles on and off and on and off... nothing but Acer logo and black screen) on 2 Acer model 1706 A version 1706 Ab monitors both built in July 2006. Before the customer reported the 2nd monitor with the same problem, i sent the 1st one into Acer for warranty service (after testing in on 4 machines w/4 different video cards). They shipped it back with a paper saying the monitor was repaired. I returned the monitor to the customer and it exhibited the same symptoms (aka, not repaired). Could there have been a bad batch in July 2006? When I plug a new Acer AL1716 monitor into the same computers, I have no problems at all.
