Question about Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speakers

Altec Lansing ada745

My problem is the prongs on the right front speaker have broken off. Is there any way to rig up this speaker so it will work again. None of my speakers work now. I hate to throw them away and I called Altec Lansing and these are obsolete now. Cant get a replacement right front speaker(the only one with power to it)

I got tired of stepping over this sub and actually threw it in the trash a couple days ago...Well I dug it out and tried your solution and surprise....it worked. great I might add. It is full blast but I use my volume on my computer to keep from losing my hearing. I can only use 3 speakers but it sounds perfect. Thanks for coming to my rescue....:)

I work for a charity that had one of these donated today and as I was looking for a new sub for my cinema system I purchased it. I have no other speakers with it and no way of switching or varying the volume. I opened up the back of the sub and slid the board partly out exposing the PCB.

You'll see 3 solder connections behind the scre in an "L" configuration. One of them is common, one volume and one power on. As I don't need volume, I'm happy with it being on full as my cinema system will vary the input, I joined all 3 together giving power on and full volume. It is working great now.

For you guys with volume controls, I would suggest shorting out the two rightmost pins in the "L" and I recon this will power it up and try varying your volume control. I recon it'll work just great.

Good luck

Oh, my goodness.  I have the exact same problem, and it just happened to me today as well, same model.  The fifth prong got bent in while I was trying to plug it back in after diagnosing a different issue (speaker volume would randomly jump up and down regardless of audio source).
It looks like a PS/2 style connector with one of the top pins missing, so I thought about taking an old PS/2 plug and grafting it on after breaking off one of those pins, but the center plastic block on the PS/2 connector is unfortunately keyed differently than the speaker plug (it's lower down on the PS/2 plug).

Will I be able to hook my altec lansing ada745 to my sanyo dp39842

The Sanyo DP39842 only has a digital audio out. You'd need a digital to analog converter, a coaxial digital audio cable, and then an RCA to 3.5 mm audio cable. Here is an example of the audio converter: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA .

I hope this helps.

That is the setup guide for the speakers.

The two wires plug into a cable that then that single cable plugs into the computer, this way you have sound coming out of the left and right hand speakers.

Connect Altec Lansing ADA745 to HD TV RCA output for home theater

It won't work like this due to this being a computer only speaker system. It requires the drivers to work with a computer & a Home theater does not recognize the format. Sorry.
