Question about Brother MFC-7820N Printer
I've been told that everything I fax has a black stripe straight down the middle when received. This isn't happeining on the faxes I receive, just the ones I've sent. I have cleaned the corona wire, wiped the scanner, and blown out any dust. Is there somewhere else I can wipe/clean/adjust to eliminate this?
I had the same problem, and I just fixed it. It was a tiny little black dot which was stuck to the glass where the document feeder passes the paper to. First you need to figure out where the line is on paper with respect to the paper, and just carefully run your finger on the glass to see if there is something on the glass. I removed it, cleaned the glass, and anything which I run through the document feeder is now fine. Hope this helps.

One Small dot of may be ink or some dust stuck on the glass.
Cleaned the glass with windex and scanning, coping like new.

Use the COPY mode on your fax machine to scan an original with only a small number of words on it. If the COPY made on YOUR fax machine has the black line on it, YOUR SCANNER is definitely the cause, and there is probably ink or correction fluid on your scanner glass, or possibly dirt UNDER the glass. The mark on the scanner may be only a tiny dot, but since the original is moving, it scans as a line, so look closely for ANYTHING on the scanner.

I have had the same problem with my 7820N since I first got it. My problem is more persistant than yours, as anything I scan (fax, copy or scan to PC) has the black line down the middle. Receiving or printing is fine, so I know its the scanner. I had brought it to a service center when it was only a month old, and after having it for 1 week, I get it back and turn it on, it sees to be fixed! Then I copy something 10 minutes later and the black line is back.
I didnt have time to bring it back for service, so I lived with it. The odd thing that I realized is that if I turn the printer off for a period of time of say 10 min or more, and scan...there is no line. Then after the printer being on for about 5-10min the line is back. Seems like when it warms up? I dunno. Just thought I would share my story. I use another fax to send faxes and if I'm really desperate to scan something, I'll turn it off for a little while, then turn it on and scan real quick.
